Role description and task arrangements

Mechanical Workshop Technician (temporary-to-permanent, 12 months)

We are looking for a Mechanical Workshop Technician for Airbus in Leiden. In this role, you will be responsible for manufacturing hardware, test setups, and Ground Support Equipment, as well as carrying out modifications on them. The work ranges from complex one-off components to small and medium-sized production series of our aerospace products. In this role, you will report to the Team Leader of Assembly & Integration.

Key responsibilities

  • CNC (and conventional) machining operations such as turning and milling.
  • Performing technical work on existing hardware (modifications) and new hardware in accordance with technical drawings, manuals, and material specifications.
  • Operating and programming 3D printers for the production of various tooling solutions.
  • Developing alternative solutions to technical challenges, proposing improvements, and implementing them.
  • Providing guidance on manufacturability and lead times for requested products.
  • Inspecting the quality of new and modified products, including the use of a CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine).
  • Creating mechanical assemblies using techniques such as bonding, welding, soldering, tightening, etc.
  • Reviewing and approving your own work and completed products/procedures.
  • Coordinating with the workshop coordinator and the work preparation team regarding machine scheduling, workload distribution, and related matters.
  • Managing the necessary materials and tools, and maintaining the general workshop inventory.
  • Performing maintenance on machines and ensuring the workshop is kept clean.

Requirements:
  • Associate's degree (preferably in Library and Information Science)
  • 2–4+ years of experience as a mechanical workshop technician in a precision mechanical workshop
  • Experience with CNC milling and/or turning is preferred.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM programming, preferably OneCNC.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English and Dutch (both verbally and in writing)
  • Available 40 hours a week.
