Mid-Level Backend Developer (AWS / Python) Omega

The energy transition is impossible without you.

Would you like to help build a system that has a direct impact on the Netherlands' energy supply?

As a Backend Developer on the Omega team, you will develop a mission-critical application that grid managers use every day to evaluate thousands of customer requests related to the power grid. You will build a cloud-native platform on AWS using Python and FastAPI, with a focus on reliability, performance, and security.

Your work directly helps connect homes, businesses, and sustainable energy solutions to the power grid more quickly.

Omega is the central work platform for network administrators. The application supports the process of handling customer requests and brings together information from various systems in one place. Our goal is to enable users to perform their work entirely within Omega, without having to constantly switch between applications.

Team and Activities

Our team is working on the Omega application, which serves as the central work platform for network managers. The application supports the process of handling customer requests and consolidates information from various systems in one place. Our goal is to enable users to perform their work entirely within Omega, without having to constantly switch between applications.
The application is built with an Angular front end and an AWS Python FastAPI backend.

You’ll be joining an enthusiastic, knowledgeable team that plays a key role in the operational process. We’re therefore looking for someone who takes ownership, actively contributes ideas for improvements, and works with the team to ensure a stable platform.

You'll have plenty of opportunities to contribute ideas regarding architecture, technical standards, and the platform's future development.

You'll be working in a multidisciplinary team of five developers, a Product Owner, a Scrum Master, and a UX designer.

The team works in a hybrid model, with Wednesdays as the fixed office day in Arnhem. On the other days, you decide whether to work from home or at the office. Once every few weeks, we work at other Alliander locations around the country to be closer to our users.

Your role

As part of the team, you'll work with Python, FastAPI, AWS, Kafka, and modern DevOps techniques. We deploy via CI/CD pipelines and are continuously building a scalable and future-proof architecture.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Translating user challenges into scalable technical solutions
  • Developing and expanding backend services in Python and FastAPI
  • Designing and Improving APIs and System Integrations
  • Monitoring and improving performance, stability, and security
  • Contributing ideas on architectural choices and technical improvements

What We Expect From You

Must-have

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or a related field
  • At least 3 years of experience with Python
  • Verifiable work experience with AWS
  • Experience with setting up REST APIs
  • An affinity for complex systems and business logic
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with systems that bring together multiple processes and integrations
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to independently conduct discussions with stakeholders about the desired functionalities, even beyond the team’s boundaries.

Pre

  • Knowledge of FastAPI
  • Experience working in a SAFe/Agile environment (Scrum team)
  • Experience with event-driven architecture (Kafka)
