As a Business Partner for Safety, Environment, and Quality (VMK), you will serve as the strategic sparring partner for management and share responsibility for how Alliander structurally embeds safety, the environment, and quality into its governance, culture, and way of working. You will operate at the Management Team (MT) level, bring clarity to complex issues, and ensure that our ambitions are effectively translated into a clear direction, decisions, and behavior. This is a hybrid position for 32 to 40 hours per week, based in Arnhem. You’ll help make the grid more professional at Alliander.

The energy transition is impossible without you as a Business Partner for Safety, Environment, and Quality

As a VMK Business Partner, you will work at the strategic level to strengthen safety performance, quality assurance, and environmental objectives within a business unit of Alliander.

You are part of the management team of one of our organizational units and use your expertise to advise the team so that it can easily make decisions and set priorities. You provide focus and clarity through a VMK annual plan and ensure that the organizational unit does not face any surprises related to VMK.

In this role, you are clearly more than just a compliance officer. You help management teams take ownership of VMK issues and challenge them on leadership, behavior, assurance, and professional maturity. At the same time, you ensure that vision and policy are translated into clear frameworks, objectives, and management systems that actually help the organization perform better.

You move seamlessly between strategy and execution, between substance and behavior. With your organizational acumen and solid substantive foundation, you know how to align interests and drive change in a complex stakeholder environment. You work closely with VMK Consultants (primarily quality and safety experts) and contribute to a unified vision and approach within the VMK department.

We’re building the energy grid of the future for everyone, together with everyone. And as a VMK Business Partner, you’ll be part of this effort. In this role, you’ll be working on:

  • to support the management team of a business unit as a strategic advisor and sounding board on Safety, Environment, and Quality;
  • work with the management team to set the direction for the VMK’s vision and translate it into concrete goals, KPIs, and annual plans;
  • to focus on professional competence, leadership, and behavior, and to advise, coach, and set standards for management teams in these areas;
  • contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of the management system (such as ISO/NEN frameworks), with a focus on effectiveness and practicality;
  • serve as a link between strategic policy and tactical implementation, in close collaboration with VMK specialists;
  • Provide functional guidance to VMK consultants within your organizational unit, with a focus on quality, coherence, and knowledge sharing.

You just make it more energetic

Building an organization that’s ready for the future. You do this by drawing on your own strengths and talents. And you can do it here with us. Can you contribute your analytical skills and ability to drive change? And can you complement these with:

  • HBO+/university-level work and thinking skills;
  • At least 5 years of experience in a strategic consulting, business partner, or similar role within a large, complex (preferably technical or infrastructure-related) organization;
  • a solid substantive background in VMK/(Q)HSE, such as that gained as a QHSE manager, Safety/Quality Business Partner, or in a similar role with an emphasis on safety and quality;
  • demonstrable experience with change management issues in the areas of safety, quality, and/or the environment, in which you provide guidance on both content and behavior and leadership;
  • experience working with and further developing management systems (such as ISO, NEN, or similar), beyond mere compliance;
  • a strong-willed individual who can switch between coaching and confronting others, and who knows how to build support at all levels of the organization.

Customer focus is second nature to you. You understand that everything we do ultimately has an impact on our customers, and you act accordingly.

Just better arranged for you

For that, you get based on a 40-hour work week:

  • A salary ranging from €5,416 to €8,200 gross per month (pay scale 10 or 11, depending on your knowledge and experience, within the range established for this position).
  • an annual individual choice budget (IKB) of 18% (full-time) or 12.8% (part-time) of your gross annual salary. This includes 8% vacation allowance. You can have this amount paid out, but you can also buy extra days off, for example. You choose what suits you.
  • 24.5 vacation days per year, liberally supplementable from your IKB.
  • paid parental leave. Makes sense, because by law it must be in the first year of your child's life, a total of 9 weeks at 70% of your salary. After that, it's unpaid. We do this differently. We pay 70% of the minimum wage your entire leave period. Immediately after the birth of your child, we make it even better for partners. You can supplement the statutory birth leave so that you can be home even longer and on full pay.
  • A December year-end bonus of 6% of your annual salary.
  • Every year, you receive a DI budget of €700 for your long-term employability. For example, you can use it to cover the costs of your sport or hobby, make your home more sustainable and eco-friendly, or reduce your student loan debt with DUO. You decide how to use your budget.
