Your work as a Backend Engineer is accelerating the energy transition in the Netherlands
Alliander is facing the major challenge of the energy transition and the implementation of the climate agreement. This requires significant investments in our energy grid. Thanks to smart technology, we are increasingly able to respond effectively to changing supply and demand. We need to develop solutions that allow us to handle even greater workloads while continuing to guarantee the quality and safety of our grid. As a Backend Engineer within the Major Projects (GW) department, you’ll play a key and hands-on role in developing and executing projects that contribute to Alliander’s strategic goals and improve planning. This is a 32- to 40-hour-per-week position. We operate on a hybrid model, allowing you to work from Arnhem or remotely. You’ll help make the grid more professional at Alliander.
The energy transition is impossible without you as a Backend Engineer
The world is changing at breakneck speed, and we at Alliander must respond quickly by increasing production fivefold over the next few years. We have tight deadlines regarding the expandability of the power grid and the associated scope of work.
Throughout all project phases, we aim to provide end users with access to functionalities as centrally as possible. Among other things, this will result in an application that gives users a comprehensive overview of their pending tasks. You will work with several teams to redesign GW’s entire IT landscape, making it as user-friendly as possible and making a significant contribution to improving and streamlining our processes.
We use Domain-Driven Design to build a microservices architecture connected via Kafka and REST. Our UI consists of an NX monorepo that supports collaboration across multiple teams and processes. We strive to use modern techniques to tackle our challenges and to adhere to coding conventions that result in high-quality applications.
You complete the grid at Alliander
We’re building the energy grid of the future for everyone, together with everyone. As a backend engineer, you’ll be part of this effort. Your responsibilities will include:
You just make it more energetic
With us, you’ll be contributing your unique strengths and talents to an organization that’s ready for the future. Can you help us achieve this with your critical perspective? And can you also bring the following to the table:
Required skills and experience
It is possible to work remotely for the most part. We expect you to be willing to come into the office at least two days a week. Additional collaboration sessions will be scheduled in consultation with the project team.
