Technical Specialist for Fixed Networks, Toekan Project
As a Technical Specialist for Fixed Networks, you will contribute to the Toekan project. As part of this program, Alliander Telecom is implementing a new MPLS network to replace the existing fiber-optic network. This ensures a future-proof telecommunications infrastructure that is essential for the energy supply. You will contribute directly to the energy transition and help make the network more sustainable and robust.

The energy transition is impossible without you as a Fixed Networks Technical Specialist

Alliander Telecom builds and manages its own 3,000-kilometer fiber-optic network, comprising 400 distribution stations equipped with active network components. This network supports various digitalization processes, such as controlling the power grid, measuring energy flows, and detecting short circuits. Due to strong growth, the demand for and use of the necessary telecommunications infrastructure are increasing.

The Toekan (Future Alliander Network Technology) program focuses on modernizing Alliander’s fiber-optic network by replacing the current, outdated SDH technology with a future-proof network infrastructure. The network serves as a critical foundation for digital operations and connects all of Alliander’s substations and data centers.

As a Fixed Networks Technical Specialist, you are the driving force behind the technical development and implementation of the MPLS network within the Toekan program. You are responsible for translating technical requirements into concrete network configurations and solutions within the telecom infrastructure. You serve as the bridge that translates architectural designs into feasible and manageable solutions within operations.

In addition, researching, testing, and implementing new network solutions, technologies, and services within the fixed-network domain is one of your core responsibilities. Testing and research take place in a test and acceptance environment. As an experienced professional, you’ll serve in a senior role and act as the expert in the areas of equipment, software, and networks. You’ll also be able to work with the vendor to investigate complex issues and coordinate or personally carry out the implementation of optimizations.

This is how you work on the energy of today and tomorrow:

    • Collaborate with the architects, tester, and project manager to translate designs into concrete implementations and deployment plans within the MPLS network
    • Communicate with equipment suppliers and the customer’s technical specialists to independently resolve problems and implement improvements;

You complete the grid at Alliander

Did you know that Alliander is made up of several companies? Together with Liander, Qirion, Qterra, Dep, Firan, and Entrnce, we develop and manage the energy grid for millions of people in the Netherlands. And with the current energy transition, that’s hard work. We do this with the help of more than 10,000 professionals. Thanks to these talented individuals, we have complete confidence in the Netherlands’ energy future. Together with you, we’re making that possible.

Alliander Telecom is the in-house telecommunications provider that delivers the necessary telecommunications services using its own fiber-optic network and its own 450 MHz wireless network.

You can only look ahead effectively if you have enough energy. And the right work environment gives you that. The Telecom department consists of 65 smart and dedicated specialists. Our vision is that telecom plays a crucial role in the energy supply of the future and the energy transition.

You make it more energetic

Working on an organization that is future-proof. You do that from your own strength and talent. And you do it with us. Will you contribute to this with your innovative solutions? Super! Especially if you complement this with:

  • HBO/WO level of work and thinking, acquired through education or at least ten years of relevant work experience in a telecommunications environment;
  • Experience with the design, implementation, and management of large-scale MPLS networks
  • MEF-CECP Certification
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with telecommunications networks and related technologies, such as (carrier) Ethernet, MPLS, OTN, PDH, DWDM, Ethernet, and IP
  • Knowledge of the Agile methodology is a plus;
