Role: Senior Functional Consultant for Scheduling & Planning

Alliander:
The Netherlands runs on energy. And by 2050, it will run entirely on renewable energy. It is up to the grid operators and all our partners to help make this energy transition possible.
Alliander committed to digitalization early on to facilitate the energy transition, with teams that develop, implement, and manage digital solutions. These include apps for field technicians and municipalities, as well as advanced algorithms for investment optimization and for preventing bottlenecks in the power grid. However, for part of our information systems, we still rely on outdated systems with complex interfaces and data that is difficult to access.

Fit4Future Asset Program:
As part of Fit4Future Asset, Alliander is modernizing a significant portion of its IT landscape for asset management and field service management. The challenge here lies not only in the individual systems, but primarily in the interrelationships between processes, systems, data, and day-to-day operations.
A key component of this is the Scheduling & Planning capability: the integrated planning and scheduling of work, capacity, and employees within the operational chain. This capability is supported by IFS, in conjunction with other applications, integrations, and data sources within the Alliander landscape.
Several more releases will be implemented in the coming period. At the same time, throughout 2027, we will be working toward a gradual transition from the program to the permanent organization.

Job description:
As a Senior Functional Consultant for Roosteren & Schedule at Alliander, you are responsible for the functional and technical-functional quality, stability, and continued improvement of Roosteren & Schedule.
You have in-depth, hands-on knowledge of complex enterprise applications and planning and scheduling functionality, and preferably experience with IFS Cloud. You understand how configuration, planning logic, integrations, APIs, data flows, and surrounding applications influence one another.
You don’t have to solve every technical problem on your own, but you have sufficient technical expertise to independently investigate configuration, logging, integrations, and data flows, and to challenge developers, architects, integration specialists, data experts, and vendors on technical matters.
When a business-critical issue gets stuck between teams, don’t wait around. Bring together the right expertise, assign ownership, and ensure progress. At the same time, proactively identify vulnerabilities in IFS and the surrounding supply chain to prevent problems whenever possible.

Responsibilities:
  • Functional Quality: You monitor the functional and technical-functional performance of IFS within Roosteren & Schedule.
  • Configuration & Solution Design: You analyze and improve configuration, scheduling logic, and functional solution approaches.
  • Incidents, Defects & Problems: You organize reports, identify patterns, and help distinguish between user inquiries, process, data, configuration, and integration issues, and technical defects.
  • Root Cause: You ensure that problems are not merely addressed at the surface level and, where necessary, organize supply-chain-wide root-cause analyses based on facts, hypotheses, and verifiable conclusions.
  • Chain Analysis: You identify the connections between IFS, APIs, integrations, data, and surrounding applications, and prevent issues from lingering between teams or systems.
  • Performance & Stability: You will help provide insight into and systematically improve the performance, availability, and stability of IFS and the supply chain.
  • Proactive quality improvement: You initiate analyses, monitoring, and checks that help identify vulnerabilities and deviations earlier.
  • Possible Solutions: You translate findings into concrete functional and technical-functional improvement proposals.
  • Prioritization: You provide advice on the impact and urgency of incidents, problems, technical debt, and structural improvements.
  • Workarounds: You ensure that temporary solutions remain visible and under control and that a long-term follow-up plan is put in place.
  • Leadership: When dealing with complex or urgent issues, you independently bring together the right teams, suppliers, and experts, and ensure accountability and progress.
  • Supplier Management: You challenge software vendors and implementation partners on the substance of their work—specifically regarding analysis, solutions, quality, and turnaround time.
  • Transition:You will help ensure that functional knowledge, monitoring, problem management, and responsibilities are increasingly embedded within the existing organization throughout 2027.

Critical Success Factors:

  • You combine strong functional knowledge with technical curiosity.
  • You’ll quickly grasp how IFS and the application chain work and how they’re connected.
  • You bring structure to a large volume of incidents and technical information.
  • You can identify patterns across individual reports and systems.
  • You distinguish between symptoms, causes, and structural solutions.
  • You don't settle for a superficial analysis when facts are missing.
  • You have the seniority to bring specialists and teams together and organize initiatives.
  • You offer constructive feedback when progress or ownership is lacking.
  • You combine solving current problems with proactive quality improvement.
  • Even under pressure, you maintain a clear overview of the impact, priorities, actions, and ownership.

Job Requirements:

  • A level of work and thinking equivalent to a higher professional education (HBO) or university (WO) degree, preferably in a technical or information science field
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience as a Functional Consultant, Application Consultant, Techno-Functional Consultant, or in a comparable senior role within complex enterprise environments.
  • At least 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience with IFS Cloud or a similarly complex enterprise platform; current experience with IFS Cloud is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with IFS Planning and Scheduling Optimization (PSO), workforce management, or a comparable enterprise scheduling platform.
  • Proven experience with field service management and complex planning and scheduling processes.
  • Proven experience with multiple full-scale enterprise implementations, including configuration, testing, go-live, and hypercare.
  • Experience with functional analysis, system configuration, and complex application issues.
  • Able to independently investigate configuration, logging, API traffic, integrations, and data flows, and formulate hypotheses about the causes.
  • Proven experience with major incidents, problem management, and root-cause analysis within a business-critical production environment.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum and, preferably, SAFe.
  • Experience with ITIL processes.
  • Experience collaborating with developers, architecture teams, operations, and external vendors.
  • Experience organizing work across teams and disciplines.
  • Proficiency in Dutch and English.

Pré:

  • Recent experience and/or certification in IFS Cloud or IFS PSO.
  • Experience with SAP, IBM Maximo, enterprise integrations, performance monitoring, JIRA, and asset management.
  • Work experience within an ART/SAFe organization and/or in the energy sector.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong in functional and technical aspects
  • Analytical
  • Curious about technology
  • Decisive
  • Persistent
  • Proactive
  • Constructively Confrontational
  • Stress resistant
  • Strong in communication and stakeholder management
