Job Description: Integration Engineer | Fit4Future Asset
Alliander context
The Netherlands is working toward a future in which energy will be fully sustainable by 2050. Alliander, together with its partners, plays an important role in this by facilitating the energy transition.
Alliander committed to digitalization early on to facilitate the energy transition, with teams that develop, implement, and manage digital solutions. These include apps for field technicians and municipalities, as well as advanced algorithms for investment optimization and for preventing bottlenecks in the power grid. However, for part of our information provision, we still rely on outdated systems with complex interfaces and data that is difficult to access. That is why we will be replacing and modernizing our core IT systems over the next five years. This is being done as part of a change portfolio called Fit4Future, which consists of five sub-areas, one of which is “Asset.”
Fit4Future Asset is building a future-proof digital foundation for managing, maintaining, and reliably deploying assets. The program standardizes and supports processes for asset performance, maintenance, and outage management, as well as for work planning, operational scheduling, coordination, and reporting on field operations. It integrates the planning of personnel, materials, and services for both network expansion and maintenance and outage recovery, ensuring that operations are predictable, scalable, and manageable.
Job Profile
As an integration engineer, you are responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing integration solutions using a variety of integration tools that are provided with the new core applications and must be wrapped into modern integration solutions. You work according to principles that preserve standard solutions as much as possible.
You have a thorough command of the technology and, of course, contribute to its development, but you also take a broad view of the bigger picture. You work closely with the various development teams to translate business processes into effective, future-proof integrations. You proactively advise on best practices and aren’t afraid to ask critical questions to ensure the integration is executed perfectly from every perspective (performance, security, and end-user).
Responsibilities
- Designing Robust Integrations: translating functional requirements into efficient integration patterns and performing precise field mapping. All of this is done in accordance with Alliander standards to ensure a maintainable, future-proof, and as standardized as possible core.
- Monitoring Performance & Scalability: You design integrations that can handle high data volumes and extreme peak loads without causing systems in the system chain to fail. This requires experience with efficient data processing, including data minimization, loose coupling, retry mechanisms, and asynchronous processing.
- Security & Privacy: You will develop secure data flows in accordance with Alliander’s security requirements
- Supply Chain Monitoring: You ensure that errors are proactively addressed and that data flows are traceable from start to finish.
- Translation from functional to integration design: Proven experience in independently translating delivered functional data mappings into detailed, technical system field mappings.
- Data Integrity & Transformation: You are able to understand complex data structures, validate data types, and design transformation logic. You ensure that data from legacy or custom systems is correctly loaded into the new application without any loss of quality or corruption.
- Proactive Validation: You do not perform this blindly; you proactively identifygaps, inconsistencies, or performance risks in the functional mapping and coordinate the necessary adjustments with the project teams and business analysts.
- Support in resolving technical issues and providing follow-up support
- Able to work within multiple multidisciplinary Scrum teams
Job Requirements
You have strong communication skills in both Dutch and English. You are a team player but are also able to take independent responsibility for your work. In addition, you work well under time pressure and have a proactive approach to independently resolving issues, while maintaining a focus on quality and continuity.
Proven experience:
- Complex Enterprise Implementations: You have proven experience working in environments where a new enterprise application was introduced, specifically in “wrapping” legacy and custom systems within modern integration layer solutions.
- iPaaS & Cloud Platforms: At least 7 years of hands- experience with the actual design, development, and configuration of cloud-based integration platforms (iPaaS).
-
Proven Security Implementations: In previous assignments, you have independently and successfully implemented modern security protocols (such as OAuth 2.0, API keys, and mTLS) and data-in-transit encryption in enterprise environments.
-
Integration Patterns Used: A track record demonstrating that you have designed and developed integration patterns (synchronous, asynchronous, event-driven, batch) and robust error-handling strategies for environments with high data volumes and demanding performance requirements.
-
Consulting & Business Interface: Experience in a dual role as both an engineer and an integration consultant, in which you have successfully validated, corrected, and translated functional designs and data mappings into workable technical solutions in close collaboration with business teams.
Experience with (pre):
Domain knowledge
- Knowledge of the utilities market: Experience in the energy market and familiarity with the specific sector processes and associated large data flows.
Advanced Integration Expertise
- Event-Driven & Messaging: Experience with event-driven architecture and event brokers
- Middleware Environments: Experience with both traditional and modern enterprise middleware.
- Cloud & Operations: Knowledge of cloud-native application development and cloud application lifecycle management and monitoring.
Knowledge of surrounding/linked systems
- Back-end: Experience with RESTful back-end development.
- Front-End & Portals: Familiarity with the development of modern web applications, modern web frameworks, and digital work portals
