Interim Materials Sourcing Manager

Job objective:
The Materials Sourcing Manager is responsible for ensuring the continuity and effectiveness of the sourcing process within Alliander during a temporary replacement period from the beginning of March to the end of December. The role combines operational management with strategic insight, focused on securing critical materials (the primary components of the network such as cables, MSR stations, transformers, and meters), optimizing supplier performance, and achieving business objectives such as a stock strategy and ensuring that there is always sufficient material available for outdoor work. The manager acts as a connecting link between internal stakeholders and suppliers and ensures the quality, safety, and compliance of the sourcing materials domain. Annual spend approximately $500 million per year.
Core duties and responsibilities
  • Conducting tenders for the sourcing work package and ensuring the timely availability of critical materials and components.
  • Leading contract management and tactical supplier management: contract negotiations, implementation, performance monitoring, and risk management.
  • Drawing up, implementing, and adjusting business plans and reports; monitoring relevant KPIs and financial targets.
  • Providing guidance to the Product Owners responsible for managing multidisciplinary procurement teams for materials.
  • Initiating and coordinating process optimizations and change processes, with a focus on digitization, sustainability, and cost control.
  • Effective stakeholder management: building sustainable relationships with internal departments (including Purchasing, Logistics, APM, planners, expert teams) and external partners (suppliers and other network operators).
  • Ensuring correct and compliant contract implementation, including maximizing the value of existing contracts.
  • Act as a sparring partner for management and MT, and contribute to strategic decision-making within the sourcing domain.
  • Leading, coaching, and developing the team with a focus on results, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Organizational embedding
The Materials Sourcing Manager reports to the SRM Director and is part of the SRM MT. In this role, the manager directly supervises 11 FTEs, including the materials department coach, the sourcing product owners, and the contract manager team leader, and also indirectly supervises 37 FTEs.
Profile and requirements
  • Completed university education, preferably in a relevant field (Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management).
  • At least 7 years of experience in a similar management role within sourcing, procurement, or supply chain.
  • Demonstrable experience with leadership, change management, and managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; results-oriented, decisive, and strong communicator.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, both internally and externally.
  • Immediately available, with a focus on continuity, stability, and decisive execution.
  • Honest, connecting, and able to build trust at all levels.

Financial responsibility
  • Responsible for a contract portfolio worth €500 million per year.
  • Has final responsibility for the budget of their own department, within the established financial frameworks.
