Location: The candidate will be in the Arnhem office one day a week, on Tuesdays.

Job Opening: Senior .NET Developer with knowledge of Oracle and GIS
Context
In the coming years, Alliander will need to build or modify more new energy grids than ever before. All of this is necessary to continue shaping the energy transition and the changing world. Do you want to join us in making a difference for our customers? Extensive automation and digitization are essential, and you will play a key role in this. To make our network future-proof for the energy transition, the implementation organization is under enormous pressure due to the large volume of work. Building stations and connections with limited capacity (technical staff and materials) requires us to work smarter.

Your Assignment
A critical application within Alliander supports the operations of our gas network. This app is used for the intake and management of outages, outage coordination, scheduled work, operations, and crisis management. We are currently modernizing this application. The new frontend recently went live, and we are now starting on the backend. While we work on the new backend, the existing environment must continue to function.

You will be part of a DevOps team working on technical developments on our ArcGIS platforms (ArcGIS Portal / ArcGIS Server), such as creating map services or expanding GIS viewers. You will work on a GIS service that cartographically displays the gas network and enables the planning and cost calculation of gas network operations.

Your responsibilities include:

  • managing, configuring, and, where necessary, further developing or updating the existing backend
  • communicating with and assisting end users in addressing their requests and concerns so they can get back to work on the gas network as quickly as possible
  • contribute ideas regarding the new backend environment and the phasing out of the old one
  • maintain contact with developers from other teams, for example because they provide services or data for our app.
  • Perform and test a major data update for the app once a quarter on the weekend (a few hours of work)

We work with the following technologies, among others:
Requirements:

  • .NET/C#
  • ArcGIS Enterprise (ArcGIS Portal & ArcGIS Server)
  • Oracle Databases
  • JavaScript/TypeScript

Strong desire:

  • AWS
  • NestJS
  • Angular

Where will you be working? (Team context)
Alliander operates on a hybrid model. This means you’ll work one day a week (Tuesdays) at our office in Arnhem, near the train station.
Team Flux consists of a Product Owner, a Scrum Master, and currently six developers. The team works closely with Team Flex within the Safety, Environment, and Quality (VMK) ART. This ART has only been in existence for two years. As a result, the atmosphere is dynamic and flexible.
By further developing and managing the application for gas operations, your work is therefore highly relevant at the heart of our company.

You’ll help make the grid even more complete at Alliander
Did you know that Alliander consists of several companies? Together with Liander, Qirion, Qterra, Dep, Firan, and Entrnce, we develop and manage the energy grid for millions of people in the Netherlands. And with the current energy transition, that’s hard work. We do this with the help of a large team of professionals.

What this role requires of you

  • You enjoy working on both operational tasks and the redesign of our systems.

  • You can work independently and take ownership.

  • You are a team player and interact easily with people both inside and outside your team

  • You are proactive, come up with suggestions for improvement, and take action on them.

Your knowledge and experience:

  • HBO/WO working and thinking level.

  • Proven experience (at least 7 years) as a backend developer (.NET) in complex IT projects involving GIS components.

  • Extensive experience with the technologies used in the existing backend (see the tech stack listed above), and experience with the technologies used in the new backend (NestJS) is a plus.

  • Good Dutch language skills.

  • Knowledge of basic concepts such as test automation and Git.

  • Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, CI/CD, and AWS is a plus.
