Alliander committed to digitalization early on to facilitate the energy transition, with teams that develop, implement, and manage digital solutions. These include apps for field technicians and municipalities, as well as advanced algorithms for investment optimization and to prevent bottlenecks in the power grid. However, for part of our information provision, we are still dependent on outdated systems with complex interfaces and data that is difficult to access. That is why we will be replacing and modernizing core IT systems over the next five years.
Fit4Future: Program Flow
Alliander has launched an initiative called Fit4Future to prepare its IT foundation for the future. Fit4Future consists of several separate, complementary programs and projects.
One of these programs is Flow, within which projects are being carried out to replace and phase out SAP IS-U.
Invoice-to-Cash (I2C) Project
Alliander uses SAP IS-U for processes such as customer management, connection management, consumption management, billing, and market and service processes. Because these systems are nearing the end of their lifecycle, these processes must be redesigned based on the future target architecture, including SAP S/4HANA and other target applications.
An essential component of SAP IS-U is Billing & Collection (SAP FI-CA). This supports the financial processes required to bill customers accurately and on time and to collect payments efficiently and in a controlled manner.
The current landscape, which includes classic ABAP, interfaces, and workflows within SAP IS-U, is not compatible with the future architecture. That is why Alliander works according to the Clean Core principles, ensuring that the landscape remains more maintainable, future-proof, and easier to upgrade.
The I2C project follows the Fit-to-Standard principle: processes and solutions are designed as much as possible based on standard SAP functionality. This limits custom development and ensures optimal use of new technologies.
