Role description and task arrangements

Rate: Max €100, including MSP fee, depending on education and work experience
Self-employed: Yes
Location: Candidate works 2 days per week at the Haarlem office; days to be determined in consultation with the team.
Screening: The candidate must undergo screening before starting. This screening takes at least 4–6 weeks.
The working language of the team is Dutch
Additional: Participation in on-call and emergency response duties
Senior Data Center Infrastructure Engineer
Assignment Description
Within Cloud Services & Hosting, we are looking for a Senior Data Center Infrastructure Engineer who combines broad data center knowledge with automation and Infrastructure as Code.
You will work on mission-critical data center and private cloud infrastructure and be able to treat compute, hypervisor, storage, and backup as a cohesive platform. The assignment focuses on reliably managing, further standardizing, and automating this infrastructure.
We are specifically not looking for a traditional VMware administrator, but rather a senior infrastructure engineer who can manage, troubleshoot, and automate complex infrastructure.

Work

  • Managing and further developing physical and virtual data center infrastructure.
  • Manage and optimize VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
  • Working with server hardware and the interrelationship between compute, hypervisor, storage, and backup.
  • Analyzing and resolving complex incidents and performance issues.
  • Automating management and deployments with Ansible and/or Terraform.
  • Working with Git, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD.
  • Improving monitoring, security, lifecycle management, and availability.
  • Standardizing and automating technical solutions.
  • Collaborating with specialists in Linux, Windows, networking, storage, and security.
  • Participate in on-call and emergency response duties.

Requirements

The candidate has:
  • HBO-level work and thinking skills.
  • Extensive experience with complex enterprise data center or infrastructure environments.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of server and virtualization infrastructure.
  • Experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
  • Demonstrable experience with Ansible and/or Terraform.
  • Experience with Git, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD.
  • Experience with Linux and/or Windows Server.
  • Experience with SAN/NAS storage.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
Automation is a key part of this assignment—it's not just a nice-to-have.

Pre

Experience with one or more of the following technologies is a plus:
  • NetApp and/or EverPure.
  • Enterprise backup solutions.
  • PowerShell / PowerCLI.
  • GitLab CI/CD.
  • Dell and/or HPE server infrastructure.

We are looking for an experienced infrastructure engineer who can bridge the gap between operations and automation. You look beyond individual infrastructure components and understand how compute, virtualization, storage, and backup work together to form a reliable private cloud service.
You’ll take technical ownership, solve complex problems independently, and continually look for ways to replace manual management with standardized and automated solutions.
