Senior CI/CD Platform Engineer (Autobahn)

As an experienced Platform Engineer, would you like to apply your technical expertise to a platform used by development teams throughout the organization? For the DPLOY team, we’re looking for a Senior Platform Engineer who can independently develop high-quality solutions in line with collectively agreed-upon design decisions and architectural guidelines. You’ll also play a key role in onboarding development teams to Autobahn—our cloud orchestration and CI/CD platform.

Your Role in the Energy Transition

The energy transition requires reliable, secure, and scalable digital services. As part of the DPLOY team, you’ll help build Autobahn: the platform that enables development teams to build and deploy software faster, more consistently, and in accordance with our standards.

As a senior engineer, you bring a wealth of technical knowledge and practical experience to the table. You’ll work independently on complex platform functionality based on design decisions we make together and in accordance with the applicable architecture guidelines. An important part of your work involves onboarding new development teams. You’ll delve into their application and platform architecture, work with the team to identify what’s needed for the transition to Autobahn, and help them align with Alliander’s standards during the onboarding process. In doing so, you’ll work closely with the Technical Solution Lead and the other team members. Effective coordination, open communication, and collaborative problem-solving are essential to performing your work well and succeeding within the DPLOY team.

What will you do?

  • Independently develop and manage Autobahn in accordance with jointly agreed design decisions and the applicable architecture guidelines
  • Delivering scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions on AWS and Kubernetes
  • Further development of CI/CD workflows in GitHub Actions, TypeScript, and Bash
  • Automating infrastructure, deployments, and operational processes using AWS CDK, Helm, and ArgoCD.
  • Onboarding new development teams on Autobahn and providing them with technical guidance throughout the entire onboarding process
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of teams’ application, cloud, and deployment architectures to identify dependencies, risks, and necessary adjustments
  • Help development teams align their solutions and work processes with Alliander’s architecture, security, and engineering standards
  • Analyze and resolve complex technical issues related to integration, performance, reliability, and security
  • Share knowledge with colleagues and development teams and contribute to code quality and engineering best practices
  • Translate insights from onboarding experiences into concrete improvements to the platform, the documentation, and the onboarding process

Working at Alliander

You’ll be joining the Technical Platforms team, specifically the Technical Platform Services Chapter. Within the DPLOY team, we work on platform capabilities that are used throughout the entire digitalization chain. We combine product thinking with strong engineering and continuously invest in standardization, developer experience, security, and reliability.

We operate on a hybrid model, with a fixed office day on Tuesdays in Arnhem. In this senior role, you’ll have plenty of freedom to develop independently, contribute technical expertise, and successfully guide development teams through their transition to Autobahn.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for an experienced engineer who combines technical depth with independence, a big-picture perspective, and strong communication skills. You can independently implement complex functionality within agreed-upon parameters and easily switch between platform development and close collaboration with development teams. At the same time, you’re a true team player: you actively seek alignment with the Technical Solution Lead and your team members, share insights, and make joint decisions about implementation. This collaboration is essential for making a successful contribution to the DPLOY team.

  • HBO or university-level work and thinking skills
  • Extensive, verifiable experience as a Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Cloud Engineer, or in a similar role
  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures
  • Extensive experience with Kubernetes, including administration, troubleshooting, security, and scalability
  • Experience with Docker and building and managing secure container images
  • Extensive experience with GitHub Actions and developing reusable CI/CD workflows
  • Experience with TypeScript and Bash for automation and platform development
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (AWC CDK and Helm)
  • You can translate jointly agreed-upon design decisions and architectural guidelines into functional, maintainable solutions
  • You can quickly gain an in-depth understanding of the architecture and technical context of development teams and clearly analyze complex issues
  • You have strong communication skills and can guide teams in a constructive manner toward organization-wide standards
  • Experience with onboarding or migrating development teams to a platform is a plus
  • Experience with Java and/or Python is a plus
  • You actively share knowledge with colleagues and development teams
  • You speak Dutch and English
