Role description and task arrangements

Senior Ecology Specialist
Start: as soon as
possible
Type: temporary-to-permanent; freelance not accepted
Hours: 32–40 hours
Location: Arnhem (at least 50% of the workweek in the office)
Maximum rate: €100, including MSP fee

NOTE: This is a temporary-to-permanent position; please state the gross monthly salary on your resume. If the salary is not listed on the resume, the candidate will not be considered further.

Working as a Senior Ecology Specialist at Qterra (part of Alliander) means making a direct impact on safety, quality, and sustainability. Drawing on your ecological expertise, you will ensure that projects are optimally prepared so that Alliander can realize its ambitions in the energy transition. This is a position for a minimum of 32 hours per week, based at our office in Arnhem and from home. You will help make the grid more sustainable at Alliander.

The energy transition is impossible without you as a Senior Ecology Specialist.

At Qterra, we believe in making smart, data-driven decisions. As a Senior Ecology Specialist, you’ll work on risk-based decision-making within the field of ecology. You prevent unnecessary costs and delays by conducting research only when it is truly necessary. With sharp analyses, you lay the foundation for efficient project preparation and successful execution. We are building the energy grid of the future for everyone, with everyone. And as a Senior Ecology Specialist, you will be part of this effort. Your responsibilities will include:

  • optimizing processes and products using innovative tools and data-driven solutions.
  • representing the field of ecology within Qterra, clearly explaining our approach and added value to regulatory authorities and clients.
  • providing subject-matter expertise for projects directly related to the energy transition.
  • We divide ecology into nitrogen/Natura 2000, area conservation (including NNN areas), species conservation, and trees.

You complete the grid at Alliander

Did you know that Alliander consists of different companies working together to create a reliable and future-proof energy network? With a large club of professionals, we develop and manage the energy network for millions of residents and entrepreneurs in the Netherlands. Everything we do, we do with an eye for the people who rely on us: our customers. And thanks to our talents, we have full confidence in the energy future of the Netherlands. Together with you, we make the energy transition possible, for and with our customers.

And you’ll be doing that at our Qterra division. Here, you and your colleagues will ensure that excavation work is carried out safely. Working alongside a team of experts, you’ll use our proprietary data system to assess and advise on potential environmental risks. At the same time, you’ll recommend the necessary measures to be taken. This ensures safety—both now and in the future.

A mindset where only the best is good enough is only possible if you have enough energy. And the right work environment gives you that. Qterra is made up of dedicated and honest colleagues. Qterra is a young company with currently 95 employees that is developing and growing at a rapid pace. We are currently transitioning from project preparation in the field of contaminated soil to broader environmental consulting. You will join a team of specialists in various fields (soil, explosive remnants of war, archaeology, water, and ecology).

You just make it more energetic

Building an organization that’s ready for the future. You do this by drawing on your own strengths and talents. And you do this with us. You contribute to this with your focus on sustainability. And you also bring the following to the table:

  • a completed associate's degree in Forestry and Nature Management or a comparable field.
  • At least 5 years of experience as an environmental consultant.
  • Excellent knowledge of habitat and species conservation and experience applying this knowledge in projects.
  • a practical approach and the ability to balance conservation interests with project implementation.
  • Experience with environmental legislation/policy and nitrogen regulations is a plus.
  • customer focus: you understand that everything we do ultimately affects our customers, and you act accordingly.

Just better arranged for you (when you join Alliander directly)

For that, you get based on a 40-hour work week:

  • a salary ranging from €4,580 to €6,543 gross per month (pay grade 9).
  • an annual individual choice budget (IKB) of 18% (full-time) or 12.8% (part-time) of your gross annual salary. This includes 8% vacation allowance. You can have this amount paid out, but you can also buy extra days off, for example. You choose what suits you.
  • 24.5 vacation days per year, liberally supplementable from your IKB.
  • A December year-end bonus of 6% of your annual salary.
  • Every year, you receive a DI budget of €700 for your long-term employability. For example, you can use it to cover the costs of your sport or hobby, make your home more sustainable and eco-friendly, or reduce your student loan debt with DUO. You decide how to use your budget.
  • Work where it works best for you, if your position allows. From the office or from your own home. Even a work station is one of the possibilities. If you work from home, you will receive a home working allowance.
