Fiber Optics Technical Consultant
As a Fiber Optics Technical Consultant, you’ll contribute to the development and management of Alliander’s fiber optics services, enabling Alliander Telecom to fulfill its crucial role in the energy supply of the future. You’ll help make our energy transition ambitions a reality. You’ll make the grid more sustainable!

The energy transition is impossible without you as a Fiber Optics Technical Consultant
Alliander Telecom is Alliander’s internal telecom provider, and designs, builds, and manages the telecom networks used to remotely control the energy grids. We have a private fiber-optic infrastructure spanning a large part of the Netherlands for controlling the largest power stations. A major new project is about to begin on this fiber-optic network to implement a technology upgrade to MPLS, while the current network must also be maintained and expanded. As a result, we are looking for a versatile Technical Consultant to temporarily strengthen the team. The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to the maintenance and continuous improvement of the existing network. This may be combined with work related to the technology upgrade.

Here’s how you’ll be working on the energy of today and tomorrow:

  • Coordinate the replacement of outdated components, including both fiber-optic cables and fiber-optic equipment;
  • Work alongside and/or lead procurement teams to contract new suppliers;
  • Addressing security issues to keep our network secure;
  • Improving and expanding the (IT) support systems;
  • Drafting new customer contracts;
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for architects, engineers, and suppliers (both internal and external to Alliander);
  • Improving internal processes;
  • Providing support with asset management issues.
You’ll help make the grid even better at Alliander
Did you know that Alliander is made up of several companies? Together with Liander, Qirion, Qterra, Dep, Firan, and Entrnce, we develop and manage the energy grid for millions of people in the Netherlands. And with the current energy transition, that’s hard work. We do this with the help of over 10,000 professionals. Thanks to these talented individuals, we have complete confidence in the Netherlands’ energy future. Together with you, we’re making that possible.

You can only look ahead effectively if you have enough energy—and the right work environment gives you that. The Telecom department consists of 70 smart and dedicated specialists. Our vision is that telecom plays a crucial role in the energy supply of the future and the energy transition.

You make the grid more energetic
Working on an organization that’s future-proof. You do that by drawing on your own strengths and talents. And you do that with us. Will you contribute to this with your broad technical perspective and collaborative approach? Great! Especially if you complement this with:
  • HBO/WO level of work and thinking, acquired through education or relevant work experience in a technical telecommunications or infrastructure environment;
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with fiber-optic networks, telecommunications infrastructure, and relevant transmission technologies and protocols, such as SDH, PDH, OTN, WDM, CWDM, DWDM, and Carrier Ethernet;
  • Experience analyzing complex technical issues and translating them into clear recommendations and actionable solutions;
  • The ability to quickly master new technical topics and collaborate effectively with various disciplines, suppliers, and supply chain partners;
  • Experience working within a large, complex organization;
  • Good knowledge of Dutch (B1 level);
  • Knowledge of ITIL and the Agile methodology is a plus.
