Assignment: Design and implementation of a testing approach for three ARTs
Background
Within Klant & Ontwerp, there is a need for a uniform and future-proof structure for the testing process for three Agile Release Trains (ARTs). Current practices regarding test strategy, test data, regression testing, defect management, and reporting vary by team and application.

The goal of the assignment is to deliver a coherent and transferable testing approach that enables the involved ARTs to ensure quality in a consistent manner.

Objective of the assignment
To design, develop, and deliver an integrated testing approach for three ARTs, consisting of:

  • detailed test strategy;
  • test data approach;
  • regression analysis approach;
  • test governance;
  • defect management;
  • quality reports;
  • Production and Release Recommendations.

Deliverables
1. Test Strategy
Delivery of a formalized test strategy document that includes, at a minimum:

  • Product risk analysis based on available requirements;
  • defining the scope of the test for each ART, team, and application;
  • determination of the required types of tests (functional, technical, and non-functional);
  • acceptance criteria for the various types of tests;
  • Proposal for the design of regression tests;
  • Proposal for managing quality risks throughout the development chain.

2. Test Data Approach
Delivery of a detailed test data framework, including:

  • analysis of the current test data situation;
  • approach to the use of production and test data;
  • Setup of data refresh processes between environments;
  • understanding and documentation of dependencies between ARTs and test environments;
  • guidelines for additional test data for new features;
  • Alignment of the test data approach with information security and privacy frameworks.

3. Recourse Approach
Delivery of:

  • a defined regression test suite;
  • guidelines for expanding and maintaining regression test suites;
  • registration of new test cases resulting from changed or new functionality;
  • Management and Transfer Guidelines for the Reuse of Test Cases.

4. Test Governance
Deliver a governance model that describes, at a minimum:

  • division of responsibilities regarding test design;
  • division of responsibilities for developing test cases;
  • division of responsibilities for providing test data;
  • division of responsibilities for conducting tests;
  • decision-making regarding test results;
  • Procedure for managing regression testing and quality assurance.

5. Defect Management
Delivering a defect management approach, including:

  • process description for recording and tracking defects;
  • classification of defects;
  • impact analysis of defects;
  • prioritization methodology;
  • report on outstanding and resolved findings;
  • Guidance for decision-making regarding remedial measures.

6. Test Evidence and Quality Assurance
Establishing a procedure for documenting and managing test evidence, including:

  • recording of completed test cases;
  • recording of expected and actual results;
  • traceability between requirements, test cases, and test results;
  • Quality criteria for complete and verifiable test evidence.

7. Reports and Decision-Making Framework
Delivery of:

  • standard formats for test reports;
  • reporting templates for progress and quality;
  • summary of the tests conducted and the test results obtained;
  • assessment framework for determining whether acceptance criteria have been met;
  • Framework for production and release recommendations (go/no-go).

8. Final Report and Implementation Recommendations
Delivery of a final report that includes:

  • the implementation of the test approach;
  • recommendations for further implementation;
  • risks and points to consider;
  • necessary next steps;
  • transferable documentation for the relevant ARTs.

Required Expertise
The contractor must demonstrate that it possesses:

  • At least 5 years of experience designing and implementing tests within organizations;
  • Experience with Agile and, preferably, SAFe environments;
  • knowledge of test management methodologies such as TMap, ISTQB, or similar;
  • experience with test data management and quality assurance;
  • experience with complex IT and application landscapes;
  • Good command of the Dutch language.
