Role description and task arrangements

Organizational context
ArtEZ is a leading institution in higher art education. Within ArtEZ, providing high-quality, innovative and socially relevant art education is central. The Education and Quality (O&K) department plays a role in this in the areas of educational advice, quality assurance, and strategic policy development.

Due to the departure of the current head of O&K effective September 1, 2025, there is a need for temporary reinforcement in the form of an experienced interim manager. The assignment will last approximately six months. The interim head of O&K will report to the director of the Service Company.

Mission and Challenges
ArtEZ recently submitted an action plan to the Education Inspectorate following a previous inspection. The coming months are crucial in the implementation of this plan, which focuses on:
  • securing educational quality;
  •  strengthening the culture of quality.

In addition, a plan to reassess ArtEZ's management philosophy and organizational structure is developing in parallel. The O&K department may have a changing position and scope in this, for example in the development of checks and balances. The interim professional is expected, after decision-making by the Board of Governors, to connect with this development process and then contribute to enabling a new positioning of the department.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Manage the O&K department (policy, quality, accreditation, educational support and consulting); approximately 7 FTE (including vacant positions);
  • Direct professionals within the department and connect with education and other staff departments;
  • Advise directors and the Executive Board on strategic and tactical levels;
  • Contribute to the implementation of the action plan and accountability thereon to the inspection;
  • Contribute to the preparation and possible implementation of organizational changes related to O&K;
  • Create support and foster collaboration in a multi-voiced environment. Profile of the candidate The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Extensive teaching experience, within HBO and preferably in art education;
  • At least five years of leadership experience, preferably in a similar context;
  • Demonstrated experience working with professionals, both within a staff department and in relation to education departments;
  • People-oriented skills, paying attention to team members and knowing how to inspire them to form a strong team together;
  • Experience in strategic advising of executives and directors;
  • Sensitivity to organizational dynamics, culture and managerial relationships;
  • Ability to translate multi-voiced and diverse views into supported choices;
  • A proactive, connecting and analytical work style.

What we offer
  • A meaningful assignment in a dynamic art education environment;
  • Plenty of room for professional input and strategic impact;
  • An engaged and driven team of professionals within O&K;
  • Market-based interim compensation depending on experience and commitment (secondment).
