Role description and task arrangements

Hello, mid-level Java/Kotlin developer! Would you like to work at the heart of the energy transition?
Energy Market | 32–40 hours | Amersfoort / Hybrid (office days: Tuesday / Thursday) | m/f/x |

At EDSN, you’ll help make the Netherlands more sustainable—every day—together with our partners in the energy sector. With your digital skills and ability to bring people together, you’ll be the indispensable link between technology and energy. In this way, you’ll help build the reliable and innovative IT infrastructure needed to facilitate a sustainable market. We have big ambitions, which is why we’re looking for you!

Key role in the energy market
Work full of energy
With the energy transition in full swing, the Dutch electricity grid is reaching its current limits, increasing the urgency to make smarter use of the grid and reduce grid congestion. GOPACS(www.gopacs.eu) is a unique partnership of all the Dutch grid operators and the strategic platform to reduce capacity shortages in the electricity grid (i.e. congestion), thus keeping the Dutch grid reliable and affordable.
The GOPACS congestion platform enables grid operators to resolve congestion by purchasing flexibility through connected energy trading platforms while providing large and small market participants an easy way to generate revenue from their available flexibility. Due to our ambitions and the rapidly growing need for congestion management and re-dispatch, we have room for new colleagues.
Since October 1, 2022, the management and development of the application have been transferred to EDSN, and the team has grown from a cross-functional team within the GOPACS Foundation to six DevOps teams at EDSN. As a Back-end Developer, you will be part of the growing DevOps teams and make a crucial contribution to the rapid development and reliable operation of the platform, which is developed and maintained in-house and runs on a cloud infrastructure.

This is what you will do
  • Designs, builds, and operates various backend systems within the GOPACS microservices architecture;
  • Ensures appropriate (minimal) documentation, reporting, and formalization;
  • Actively contributes to design and refinement sessions;
  • Applies best practices in the areas of security, quality, and availability;
  • Contributes to automated quality checks in the CI/CD pipeline;
  • Create and run automated unit and integration tests;
  • Participates in the standard DevOps incident management process.
You take this further
  • Demonstrated experience with Java 17+ and Spring Boot;
  • Experience using design patterns and methodologies and an opinion on Clean Code;
  • Understanding different levels of testing (unit testing, functional testing, API testing, mocking, end-to-end testing).
Nice to haves
  • Experience with Kotlin;
  • Experience with build & deployment tools such as: Maven, GIT, Docker, Ansible;
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, especially MongoDB;
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling and activation processes;
  • Hands-on experience setting up and maintaining OTAP development chains and tooling;
  • Experience with Linux and scripting;
  • Understanding API implementations such as REST;
  • Understanding logging and monitoring with Elastic, LogStash, Kibana and Grafana;
  • Understanding end-to-end testing with Playwright and Cucumber;
  • Experience with CQRS Patterns and tooling (Axon Framework);
  • Experience in the energy sector.
