Role description and task arrangements

Hello, System Architect! Would you like to work at the heart of the energy transition?

Mid-Level System Architect, Data Sharing

32–40 hours | Amersfoort / Hybrid | Energy Market | Start date: ASAP | Assignment duration: end of 2026
Applications accepted until Wednesday, June 17 at 9:00 AM | Secondment | Freelancers not permitted

Do you enjoy working where data, architecture, and decision-making converge—and do you naturally take the lead?

At EDSN, Data Sharing forms the foundation of the energy transition. As a Medior System Architect for Data Sharing, you play a key role in steering, connecting, and securing our architecture within the value stream.
You are not the architect who designs everything yourself, but the one who ensures that the right choices are made, understood, and consistently implemented.

Work full of leadership, data, and impact
In this role, you have final responsibility for the architectural coherence of Data Sharing within a value stream. You operate at the intersection of data-driven applications, data services, authentication systems, and organization-wide coordination.
Within EDSN, multiple teams work on data platforms and data services used throughout the energy sector. You oversee the bigger picture, prevent fragmentation, and ensure that teams remain agile within clear frameworks.
Youwill operate explicitly as an architecture director: providing direction, maintaining an overview, and organizing decision-making, with deep knowledge of data-driven applications as your substantive foundation.

This is what you will do

  • You will define and monitor the Data Sharing architecture at the value stream level, in alignment with enterprise and platform architecture.
  • You translate strategic data objectives into a clear, data-driven architectural vision, including frameworks, principles, and decisions.
  • You will ensure consistency across data-driven applications, data services, and authentication systems.
  • You will develop and monitor the architectural runway (3–12 months) within the value stream and facilitate timely decision-making regarding dependencies and enablers.
  • You will serve as the coordinating hub between application teams, platform teams, Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, and Release Train Engineering.
  • You ensure stakeholder alignment: the right people at the table, decisions made at the right time, and clear accountability.
  • You monitor risks related to data quality, scalability, performance, reusability, and governance, and escalate issues as needed.
  • You support teams in fulfilling their mandate by providing clear architectural frameworks, without taking over their responsibilities.

This is what energizes you
You thrive onproviding direction in complex data-sharing landscapes and fostering coherence in an environment with many competing interests and interdependencies. You find it fascinating to make (and facilitate) decisions about how data is made accessible, processed, and reused—both today and in the future.

You feel right at home with issues such as:

  • the integration of data-driven applications into a broader architecture;
  • data modeling and data contracts as the foundation for reusable data services;
  • event- and data-driven architectures in a supply chain context;
  • balance between accelerating development for teams and architectural consistency.
  • facilitating architecture and design sessions with teams within the value stream
  • Supporting teams with enablers, spikes, and proofs of concept to substantiate architectural decisions
  • ensuring quality, with a specific focus on non-functional requirements (security, compliance, performance), technical debt, and sustainability

You also draw energy from taking the lead, providing direction, and creating a sense of calm and clarity.

You’ll take this with you

  • Experience (3–5 years) as a System Architect in data-intensive environments.
  • Experience with cloud-based data-driven solutions, preferably on AWS.
  • Experience applying architectural principles and methodologies (such as reusable data services, governance by design, and platform thinking).
  • Knowledge of authentication and authorization solutions
  • Supporting modern development processes, such as the proper use of AI in development
  • Knowledge of and experience with SAFe and Agile methodologies, as well as a clear understanding of the division of roles among teams, architecture, and project/change management.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills: you facilitate decision-making, maintain an overview, and reconcile competing interests.
  • A results-oriented approach, with a focus on quality, risks, and the future-proofing of data solutions.
  • Experience in the energy sector, preferably with at least one of the network operators (preferred)
  • Experience with Java/Kotlin (preferred)
  • Experience with APIs, contracts, and integrations
  • Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka or AMQP (preferred)
