Role description and task arrangements

Hi PlatForm Engineer!

Secondment, 40 hours per week

At EDSN, you’ll help make the Netherlands more sustainable—every day—together with our partners in the energy sector. Working in the cloud is becoming more important by the day—and that goes for our development teams, too.
Working in the cloud is becoming more important by the day. This is also true for our development teams. With your digital skills and ability to bring people together, you’ll play a major role in making this a reality.

Be the indispensable link in the energy market
Work with energy
Guard is a team within the IT Foundation value stream. The team is responsible for the Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. These services are used by the EDSN DevOps teams to develop agile systems to support the Dutch energy market. An essential part of the solutions our team offers is Self-Service (preferably declarative via GitOps). This means that teams can use the building blocks without being directly dependent on us. Our team is service-oriented and interacts frequently with other teams, so we also place a strong emphasis on the necessary soft skills.

In addition to Guard, his team—Atlas, Base64, WhoAmI, CRT, Watchdog, and Fundamentum—are part of this value stream. Atlas focuses on cloud (AWS) infrastructure, Base64 focuses on generic building blocks for integration, and WhoAmI is responsible for Identity & Access Management. Fundamentum focuses on data engineering and data analytics. CRT is responsible for the container runtime on which the applications run. Watchdog is responsible for our observability stack.

A key aspect of IT Foundation is delivering building blocks that ensure business agility and speed of realization (time-to-market). In short, agile solutions that can be developed in rapid, short, and small iterations (integrate early & integrate often + working complex systems evolve from simple working systems).

We are a friendly, dedicated team of seven specialists who are easy to approach—both within our department and throughout the entire company—which makes for such a pleasant work environment!
  • We have a set office day on Thursdays. In addition, we expect you to be willing to work a second day in the office.
  • EDSN operates entirely on the SAFe framework.

This is what you will do
  • Improvements to our CI/CD platform (GitLab):
    You will develop and refine our CI/CD platform with the goal of enabling teams across the company to work more efficiently and achieve better results. By constantly iterating and improving, you will help create a robust and flexible technological foundation.
  • Management of our Kubernetes platform (AWS EKS):
    As the administrator of our in-house K8S platform for CI/CD, you’ll ensure that pipelines for the DevOps teams run securely, reliably, and on time. You’ll perform regular maintenance and implement best practices to ensure the gateway performs optimally.
  • Expansion of CI/CD platform capabilities: You will work on expanding the CI/CD infrastructure to meet the growing demand from the DevOps teams. By ensuring scalability and reliability, you will contribute to the resilience of the system.
  • Collaboration and backlog management: You work closely with the team and the product owner to ensure that the backlog of tasks is properly managed and prepared for execution. Through effective communication and planning, you ensure that the team can achieve its goals and deliver value to the organization.
  • Collaboration with DevOps teams: You will collaborate with other DevOps teams to ensure that the building blocks and infrastructures developed are seamlessly aligned with the needs of other teams. Through consultation and collaboration, you will help create an integrated ecosystem of tools and processes.
  • Implementation of CI/CD pipelines and GitOps process: You will build and maintain Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to get applications to production quickly and reliably. Using a declarative GitOps process, such as helmet and argo, you automate deployments and ensure consistent and repeatable releases.
Driven to make an impact
This is what energizes you
You’re a versatile Platform Engineer with a can-do attitude, inspired by an innovative environment like the one we have at Team Guard. You’re a DevOps professional who truly takes ownership of the work you deliver.

You will bring the following:
  • At least 3 years of work experience
  • Willing to work on-call shifts (EDSN and we believe it is important that this be communicated to candidates in advance; see the full policy under “Wishes and Requirements” in the application).
  • You have a curious mind when it comes to exploring new technologies;
  • You are a natural team player and enjoy collaborating on complex technical challenges;
  • Extensive experience with GitLab, including CI/CD pipelines, runners, and platform management;
  • Experience with AWS, preferably with EKS, IAM, and networking;
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and managing cloud environments at scale;
  • Experience with Kubernetes (EKS), Helm, and containerization;
  • Experience with GitOps principles and tools such as ArgoCD;
  • Experience with Linux platforms and automation;
  • Experience with scripting (preferably Python or Bash);
  • An interest in security, compliance, and further automating security controls within the development pipeline.
Also helpful:
  • Experience with large-scale GitLab management, including groups, projects, and integrations;
  • Experience with observability tools such as Grafana and Prometheus;
  • Experience with Renovate and JFrog Artifactory or similar tools for dependency management and software supply chain automation;
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, including identity and access management;
  • Knowledge of or experience with the Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC);
  • Knowledge of or experience with software supply chain security and SLSA (Supply-chain Levels for Software Artifacts);
