Role description and task arrangements

Hello, Platform Engineer, Developer Experience!

Secondment, 40 hours per week

At EDSN, you’ll help make the Netherlands more sustainable—every day—together with our partners in the energy sector. Working in the cloud is becoming more important by the day—and that goes for our development teams, too.
Working in the cloud is becoming more important by the day. This is also true for our development teams. With your digital skills and ability to bring people together, you’ll play a major role in making this a reality.

Be the indispensable link in the energy market
Work with energy
Guard is a team within the IT Foundation value stream. The team helps build EDSN’s internal developer platform. We help development teams deploy software to production quickly, securely, and in accordance with standards. We do this using self-service building blocks, centralized CI/CD templates, security tools, GitOps principles, and innovative developer tools.

In addition to Guard, his team—Atlas, Base64, WhoAmI, CRT, Watchdog, and Fundamentum—are part of this value stream. Atlas focuses on cloud (AWS) infrastructure, Base64 focuses on generic building blocks for integration, and WhoAmI is responsible for Identity & Access Management. Fundamentum focuses on data engineering and data analytics. CRT is responsible for the container runtime on which the applications run. Watchdog is responsible for our observability stack.

A key aspect of IT Foundation is delivering building blocks that ensure business agility and speed of realization (time-to-market). In short, agile solutions that can be developed in rapid, short, and small iterations (integrate early & integrate often + working complex systems evolve from simple working systems).

We are a friendly, dedicated team of seven specialists who are easy to approach—both within our department and throughout the entire company—which makes for such a pleasant work environment!
  • We have a set office day on Thursdays. In addition, we expect you to be willing to work a second day in the office.
  • EDSN operates entirely on the SAFe framework.

This is what you will do
  • Improve the Developer Experience at EDSN
You’ll work with development teams to gain insight into the challenges they face while developing, testing, and releasing software. You’ll translate these insights into improvements to our developer platform, so that teams can deliver value faster and spend less time on non-core tasks.
  • Develop Golden Paths
You’ll work with the Guard team to develop standardized development and deployment processes[MH1][MH2]. By making centralized CI/CD templates, self-service building blocks, and best practices available, you’ll help teams set up new applications quickly and consistently.
  • Make secure development easy
You will contribute to the further development of our Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC). In this role, you will explore how security controls, software supply chain security, and compliance can be automated as much as possible without limiting team productivity.
  • Explore new technologies
You will explore how innovations such as AI-assisted development, agentic development, Dev Containers, and software delivery automation can be used to further improve the development process.
  • Build the developer community
You'll actively collaborate with developers, architects, and platform teams. You'll gather feedback, guide the adoption of new solutions, and help teams successfully leverage the platform's capabilities.

Driven to make an impact
This is what energizes you
You’re energized by improving the Developer Experience within the organization. You actively seek collaboration with development teams, understand the challenges they face, and translate these insights into practical improvements in tools, processes, and standards. You know that successful solutions aren’t just technically sound—they’re widely adopted. That’s why you invest in knowledge sharing, community building, and increasing adoption. Topics such as DevSecOps, AI-assisted development, Golden Paths, and secure software development energize you.

You will bring the following:
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Willing to work on-call shifts (EDSN and we believe it is important that this be communicated to candidates in advance; see the full policy under “Wishes and Requirements” in the application).
  • You have a background as a Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or Platform Engineer and understand how modern software development works.
  • You have experience with CI/CD processes and understand the challenges developers face in practice.
  • You get a sense of fulfillment from improving the developer experience and developing standards that are used by multiple teams.
  • You have strong communication skills and know how to get development teams on board with new work methods, processes, and technologies.
  • You have an interest in DevSecOps, the Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC), and software supply chain security.
  • You're curious about innovations such as AI-assisted development, AI agents, and Dev Containers, and you enjoy exploring how they can help developers.
  • You enjoy working with different teams and feel at home in an environment where knowledge sharing, feedback, and continuous improvement are key.
Also helpful:
  • Experience with GitLab and CI/CD platforms.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, and GitOps.
  • Knowledge of security scanning, code quality tools, and software supply chain security.
  • Experience developing templates, frameworks, or other reusable building blocks for development teams.
