Role description and task arrangements

Hello, Senior Platform Engineer! Would you like to work at the heart of the energy transition?

32–40 hours | Amersfoort / Hybrid | Energy Market | Start date: as soon as possible | Six months with the option to extend
EDSN is a rapidly growing organization. At EDSN, you contribute to making the Netherlands more sustainable. Every day. Together with our partners in the energy sector.The energy market is changing; solar panels, electric cars, sustainable energy generation and smart meters have a major impact on how the market is regulated. At Energie Data Services Nederland, we ensure that market management continues to function well based on data, contributing to a stable energy supply in the Netherlands, now and in the future. For the future, EDSN has great ambitions to make even more use of the rapidly growing data volumes, and good IT services form the basis for this.

About the team
The team provides the observability infrastructure and services required for all cloud systems. We operate according to cloud-native and SaaS principles. In other words, modern IT Infrastructure-as-a-Service. Speed is crucial for our DevOps teams. Team Watchdog is an observability team whose strategy is to provide our development teams with the necessary services through standardization and automation. Effective service provisioning, operational excellence, and built-in security are essential for supporting other teams. The team is the primary, critical link in the observability chain, which is why we strive for the highest level of service.
Who are you?
We are looking for a senior observability engineer with broad experience. Someone who really knows how to build solid services and make measurable improvements. The ideal candidate loves automation, is service-oriented and can put himself/herself in the position of both his/her own team and other DevOps teams. He or she has good communication skills, a solid track-record in consulting, support, troubleshooting and development of complex solutions, is customer-oriented and results-driven. He or she can work independently and enjoys learning and working in a dynamic environment. Do you recognize yourself in these characteristics?

Requirements
  • At least 2 years of work experience with an observability stack (preferably: Prometheus, Grafana).
  • 2 to 5 years of work experience with one of the three major public clouds (Azure, GCP, AWS), preferably AWS.
  • At least 3 years of work experience with Kubernetes and Helm
  • At least 2 years of work experience with Terraform, preferably more.
  • Experience with GitLab and GitOps; Argo CD is preferred.
  • Experience working in large organizations, complex environments, and large-scale infrastructure
Wishes:
  • Familiar with Python, Bash, or Go
Responsibilities:
  • Work on the foundation of EDSN's IT solutions, the platform in AWS based on Kubernetes and its building blocks.
  • Design and develop an observability platform that other teams can use as a service.
  • Set up and maintain network infrastructure, security and links to SaaS services in the AWS cloud.
  • Of course, development follows the Infrastructure-as-Code principle. We do this almost entirely using GitOps principles, including GitLab, Terraform, and ArgoCD.
  • Active collaboration with DevOps teams in how to most effectively deploy the building blocks to achieve their goals.
  • Encouraging and actively participating in the development of automated processes.
Skills:
  • Extensive experience with observability and all its components: monitoring, metrics, logging, and tracing systems (e.g., Prometheus, Thanos, Grafana, Grafana Loki, Grafana Tempo, Grafana Mimir), LGTM.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a proactive attitude;
  • Experience with security aspects of cloud environments;
  • Knowledge of and experience with scalable and distributed environments;
  • Source code management with Git;
  • Extensive experience in cloud development and Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm);
  • Experience with SAFe and Agile Scrum (preferred);
  • Proficient in the DevOps way of working and the DevOps mindset.
