Role description and task arrangements
Interim Director of Care and Safety
Duration: through May 1, 2027
Scale 10
Hours per week: 28–36 (preference for 32 or more)
Work location: De Bieste shelter
Due to the maternity leave of our Care and Safety Director, we are seeking an experienced Care and Safety Director with a strong background in healthcare to fill a temporary position at our asylum shelter, De Biester, in Gieten.
Together with the location coordinator, the director ensures the smooth day-to-day operation of the shelter and is visible and approachable to residents, staff, and partners. In addition to day-to-day management, there is a strong emphasis on care and safety. The director identifies care needs and safety risks in a timely manner, supports staff in handling more complex resident cases, and, where necessary, coordinates and refers residents to appropriate care. This involves close collaboration with, among others, care providers, the municipality, the COA, and partners in the fields of care and safety.
We also work closely and coordinate with the colleague who fills this role within our municipality’s Ukraine refugee reception program. The guiding principle here is to provide tailored support and to strengthen residents’ self-reliance.
We are looking for someone with a higher vocational education (HBO) level of work and thinking, experience in healthcare, social work, or social services, and preferably experience working at or managing a shelter. Key qualities include a calm demeanor, the ability to maintain a broad perspective, decisiveness, strong communication skills, and the ability to engage staff in the organization’s approach to care.
A solid background in and knowledge of healthcare is a requirement for this position. By “knowledge of healthcare,” we mean more than simply paying attention to residents’ well-being. We are looking for someone who can recognize and interpret care needs, is familiar with the various care frameworks, and understands the options and responsibilities within the healthcare sector. The coordinator is familiar with the network of care and supply chain partners, knows when specialized care is needed, and can make the appropriate connections.
