Role description and task arrangements

Would you like to inform and guide our clients within the rules to the necessary permits. Then read on!

We are looking for an enthusiastic

Environmental Consultant
For 36 hours per week | Location Exloo (hybrid)

What will you do
As an Environmental Consultant, you will work in a small cluster of permit providers within the Customer Contact Center. You will inform and guide our clients within the rules to the necessary permits. The process often starts with a director's role in which you, in consultation with our internal and external advisors, help the applicant further and look for possibilities. Here you should think of the following activities:

  • Reviewing and deciding on applications for environmental permits (such as cutting trees, constructing a driveway, building a structure, deviating from the Environmental Plan and the like);
  • Providing information to citizens and businesses about this entire task area. This can be oral, telephone, or mail;
  • Monitoring the process and progress of applications, acting as a 'spider in the web' ensuring that the correct advice (from both internal and external advisory partners) is sought and applied appropriately;
  • Obtaining specialist advice, including interpreting and applying it;
  • In consultation with the initiator to achieve a desired outcome;
  • Providing advice on enforcement requests in the physical domain and in objection proceedings.

How do we see the ideal candidate?
We expect you to think along with the resident/applicant, without losing sight of the general interest. This requires you to think integrally, be flexible and have strong communication skills towards the applicant, the resident and the administration. You contribute to the common result through optimal coordination with others. And in doing so, you give advice based on professionalism with respect to the permit application. In your work you put the social effect first and take into account the legal and economic effects. You approach your work with enthusiasm and a broad perspective. You are someone who is aware of the developments surrounding environmental law and you think from opportunities. Furthermore, you actively seek connections with colleagues, partners and stakeholders. You know and recognize what is going on and what sensitivities are involved and make these negotiable. You motivate others to provide input and make room for this. Furthermore, you recognize yourself in the following:

  • You have a completed technical, legal and/or spatial planning education at HBO level within the field and affinity with the VTH policy field and completed additional training in the field of environmental law/ ABW 1 and 2;
  • You have a passion for customer service;
  • Naturally, you will bring knowledge and experience in the field of licensing and environmental law;
  • You are able to work well in a (small) team and are flexible and dare to think outside the box;
  • You like to roll up your sleeves;
  • You also have a good command of the Dutch language both verbally and in writing;
  • You can quickly master digital systems.

It is an advantage if you have experience as a Permit Clerk with a municipal agency. Even if you don't have that, we'd love to get in touch with you!
