Job description – Spatial Law Lawyer
(18 hours per week, with the possibility of extension) Please note: secondment only

If Spatial Law Lawyer As part of the Spatial Development team, you will be active in the spatial domain. You will ensure that spatial decisions, recommendations, and procedures are not only substantively correct, but also legally sound. You will work closely with permit issuers and colleagues in spatial planning, but will always remain independent in your legal considerations.
You are not a planner, but a lawyer: analytically strong, meticulous, and able to translate complex rules into clear, applicable advice.

What will you do?
  • You assess compliance with the Environment Act, the General Administrative Law Act, the Building and Planning Act, the Building and Planning Decree, and local regulations.
  • You advise colleagues and management on legal issues within the spatial domain.
  • You assess draft decisions and spatial substantiations for legal correctness and risks.
  • You contribute to the legal safeguarding of decisions concerning environmental plan activities and BOPAs.
  • You supervise legal steps in spatial planning procedures and monitor the correct procedural steps.
  • You handle objections and appeals, draft defense statements, and represent the municipality at hearings and (if necessary) in court.
  • You provide legal input into environmental planning processes, focusing on legal systems, feasibility, and consistency of rules.
What do you bring?
  • A completed bachelor's degree in law (or equivalent).
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a lawyer in the spatial domain, preferably at a municipality or environmental service.
  • Good knowledge of the Environment Act, the General Administrative Law Act, and relevant case law.
  • Excellent analytical skills: you spot risks, inconsistencies, and opportunities that others miss.
  • Strong writing skills: you can make legal language clear and accessible.
  • Political and administrative sensitivity: you understand context and interests without compromising your legal independence.
  • A collegial and professional attitude, with an eye for cooperation and quality.
Your style and competencies
  • Accurate and legally astute
  • Communicatively strong
  • Critical, but always constructive
  • Collaborative
  • Judicious and responsible
  • Results-oriented and structured

Where do you end up?
You will work in a team that deals with licensing, spatial planning policy, and legal advice. You are the legal specialist who ensures that spatial decisions are upheld, well-founded, and legally sound. You will be given the freedom to work independently, but you will never be alone—collaboration is an important part of the job.
Kind regards,
