Job Objective

The Temporary Traffic Measures Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, reviewing, and ensuring the safety, accuracy, and feasibility of temporary traffic measures during construction projects, events, and other traffic disruptions within the municipality. The role involves providing advice, coordination, and oversight, and serves as the point of contact for internal and external parties.


Core duties and responsibilities

 

Coordination and review of temporary traffic measures

  • Reviewing and approving traffic plans for construction work, projects, and events.
  • Ensure the proper application of laws, regulations, guidelines (including CROW guidelines), and municipal policies.
  • Coordinate with contractors, organizers, project managers, and internal teams.
  • Incorporating traffic engineering and safety considerations into temporary traffic arrangements.

Traffic plans and systems

  • Coordinating the development of traffic plans and standard traffic control measures.
  • Management and entry of temporary traffic measures into the national MELVIN system.
  • Ensuring that the measures entered are up to date and accurate.

Advice and processing of applications

  • Handling traffic-related matters in connection with event permits.
  • Reviewing applications for special transport.
  • Provide guidance on applications for driveways and temporary changes to public spaces.
  • Conducting or coordinating baseline studies to substantiate traffic impacts.

Coordination and consultation

  • Participation in internal and external meetings regarding work activities, scheduling, and traffic disruptions.
  • Coordination with colleagues from departments such as projects, administration, permits, enforcement, and policy.
  • Identifying bottlenecks and risks and advising the client or management on these matters.

Quality Control and Quality Assurance (Practical)

  • Ensure that temporary traffic measures are properly implemented in practice, particularly when no supervisor is available.
  • Identifying and reporting unsafe situations or deviations from approved traffic plans.
  • Contribute to improving compliance with and awareness of temporary traffic measures.

(Note: Formal responsibility for oversight may lie elsewhere; in practice, this role ensures that oversight takes place.)


Key Performance Areas

  • Temporary traffic measures are safe, legally sound, and feasible.
  • Traffic disruptions caused by construction work and events are manageable and well-coordinated.
  • Both internal and external parties know where to find the coordinator as an expert point of contact.
  • Clarity regarding responsibilities and agreements related to temporary traffic conditions.

Knowledge and skills

  • Knowledge of traffic engineering and temporary traffic control measures.
  • Familiarity with CROW guidelines and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Experience with or knowledge of MELVIN is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to persuade.
  • Ability to maintain an overview and weigh different interests.
  • Independent, decisive, and able to handle stress.
