1. Job Description

The municipality is seeking a Public Space Inspector for the Public Space Management (BOR) cluster, with a specific focus on roads, bike paths, sidewalks, and other paved surfaces.

The supervisor oversees civil engineering maintenance and redevelopment projects in public spaces. Over the next four years, the municipality will carry out a large-scale road maintenance program. The supervisor is expected to consistently, visibly, and thoroughly oversee contractors’ compliance with the specifications, both during the preparatory phase and throughout the project’s execution.

In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for contractors, residents, and internal colleagues within the roads and pavements division. You will work under the supervision of the Roads Advisor and Project Manager, in close collaboration with a fellow supervisor, and as part of the BOR cluster.


2. Results of the assignment

The initiative is successful when:

  • The civil engineering works will be carried out in accordance with the specifications, schedule, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Contractors must work correctly, on time, and in accordance with agreements.
  • Reports from residents are addressed and resolved appropriately.
  • Financial processing and administration of projects are accurate and verifiable.
  • Data management and information systems remain up-to-date and comprehensive.

3. Core tasks and responsibilities

The regulator performs the following tasks, among others:

Oversight & Implementation

  • Oversee the construction, maintenance, and repair of the municipal road network (roads, bike paths, sidewalks, and other paved surfaces).
  • Identifying and correcting deviations from specifications and agreements.
  • Monitor safety, accessibility, and quality during implementation.

Preparation & Coordination

  • Conducting site inspections and coordinating with contractors prior to the start of work.
  • Providing substantive input for specifications and schedules.
  • Collaborate with consultants, area coordinators, and other internal stakeholders.

Administration & Systems

  • Provide input for contract administration and financial processing.
  • Maintaining and updating the information system / data management.
  • Processing and recording reports via the Employee Portal (public space reporting system).

Communications

  • Point of contact for contractors, residents, and internal departments.
  • Answering residents' questions about construction work in their neighborhood.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.

4. Job Requirements (Essential)

The candidate must demonstrably meet the following requirements:

  • Education: Minimum MBO Level 4, majoring in civil engineering / infrastructure.
  • Experience: Demonstrable and recent experience as a civil engineering/infrastructure supervisor.
  • Specialization: experience in supervising pavement construction, preferably asphalt pavement.
  • Knowledge of systems and regulations:
    • RAW methodology
    • UAV
    • ARW 2012
  • Experience working with or for a municipal client is a strong advantage.
  • Available for assignment over several years as part of a long-term maintenance program.
