Role description and task arrangements
Schiedam is an authentic, lively and innovative city on the Schie with metropolitan challenges as well as neighborhood-oriented issues. Schiedam has over 78,000 inhabitants and borders Rotterdam, the dynamic port area and the green Midden Delfland. We are an agile, flexible organization that is open to innovation, is part of the community and actually implements new solutions. We do this together with residents and entrepreneurs by making plenty of room for innovation, experiments and initiatives and by daring to jettison unnecessary bureaucracy.
Projects team
Within the Projects team, projects of various kinds are prepared and supervised during implementation. This relates to public space but also to larger development and transition tasks. In addition to spatial planning, these tasks also involve other policy fields such as the economy, safety, social and community aspects. In the preparation of projects, there is already intensive collaboration with strategic policy departments and professional disciplines, as well as with citizens and businesses. Participation is therefore an important part of the work package. The team now consists of approximately 50 employees and is formed by senior process and/or project managers focused on area development and general project managers, technical project managers (at junior /medior/senior level) and project assistants.
What will you do?
As general project leader you work on spatial or social projects in the city from multidisciplinary project teams (including civil, green, neighborhood management, social, enforcement, services). As project leader you give functional leadership to this team and you are responsible for the quality of the underlying subprojects that are carried out. Using the GROTICK method, you conduct project management professionally and steer the achievement of schedules within the financial and legal frameworks and mandates. In a timely manner you take care of the right administrative decisions when necessary within the execution of your project. You maintain proactive contact with residents, interest groups, social agencies and market parties, depending on the scope of your and/or phase's project. As general project manager you are responsible from beginning to end for the proper and thorough execution of the project, both externally and internally. You are accountable to the Projects team manager for the quality of the general task execution and to your official client for the progress and results.

Managing projects well is a profession and it goes without saying that you are experienced in managing and executing projects according to a (certified) project methodology. You are happy to share your previous successes with us. You are not a soloist, but prefer to work with others to achieve concrete results. You understand the (administrative) context and the diverse interests of parties. With your born leadership qualities you continue where others would stop, you bring parties together and you know how to organize commitment to implementation in a creative and natural way. You enjoy presenting in front of groups yourself and have a sense of good representation. You take transparency and open communication with the city for granted and actively organize this. You are aware of the possible consequences of your actions and weigh moral dilemmas with your project members and client. You work continuously on your professional knowledge and personal development and have a completed HBO education, preferably in the field of Civil Engineering or Technical Business Administration. A completed education in the field of project management is an advantage.
