Role description and task arrangements

Schiedam is a medium-sized city with metropolitan issues. Urban development and sustainability together with social development form the three core tasks of the city. On the basis of these tasks, we are working on the development of an attractive city where Schiedammers want to live, work and stay. We do this within the urban development chain by developing (strategic) policy, making spatial implementation plans, conducting land policy and realizing spatial-physical projects. Team Spatial Development and Policy, as part of urban development, works on the spatial tasks of Schiedam. Within this team are the fields of Housing, Mobility, Urban Planning and Landscape, Plan Legal Affairs, Environment and Sustainability and Planning. For the Housing department within the Spatial Development and Policy team, we are temporarily looking for an experienced policy advisor on housing due to increasing workload.

What will you do?
  • You advise in the area of the task reception of displaced persons. Within Schiedam is working on the development of the Law Municipality (spreading law). There is also a task in the field of the reception of displaced persons from Ukraine and the housing of status holders. You will work together with the project leader and the project team reception.
  • You will work on further occurring tasks within the team. This may involve visioning and implementation of Housing and Care, regulations and policy plans. This may also involve plan advice for housing projects, checking whether the plans fit within the Housing Vision "Growth as a can for the city".

Within this team the policy advisors work together with colleagues from across the organization and with external parties on the broad housing policy field. You have to deal with metropolitan issues and tasks on a larger scale in a medium-sized city, close to the administration.

What do you bring:
  • Relevant HBO or academic education, for example in the field of Planning, Sociology, Social Geography, Real Estate or Architecture 
  • Work experience in a policy-oriented position focused on housing policy; 
  • Experience with administratively sensitive files;
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (Wro, Housing Act, Housing Act, Environment Act) 
  • Willingness to look beyond the boundaries of the field and also help carry the story of comprehensive integrated development; 
  • Affinity with current themes in urban development, such as the urbanization task, housing and healthcare, health, sustainability and climate adaptation;
