Role description and task arrangements

The municipality of Schiedam is looking for an interim team manager Economy, Culture and City Promotion.
Due to the departure of the current manager and pending the final filling of the position, we are looking for an interim team manager. We estimate this will last up to 6 months.

Are you used to leading a team of professionals working on different policy areas, do you have knowledge of (some of) those policy areas and do you have experience in leading within a municipality? Do you feel like coaching and guiding an energetic and outgoing team of experienced and committed professionals in special times of budget cuts on the one hand and ambitions and new municipal elections on the other?

Team
The team consists of 25 employees divided into the sub-teams/sub-areas of Economy, Monuments & Heritage and Culture & Leisure. The Downtown, Ports and City Marketing programs are also the team's responsibility.


Assignment Description

As manager, you are ultimately responsible for the team, for both personnel and content.

Content:
The team works on several policy areas. These policy areas are currently the responsibility of three different aldermen. It is important that you are able to find the balance in this political playing field, taking into account the various interests and knowing how to adjust at the right time.
You will be working on some important issues:
  • The completion of the project Schiedam celebrates 750 years, financial accountability and evaluation with the city's partners;
  • Effecting the recently made decisions around the budget cuts and managing their effects while maintaining a good relationship with the city's cultural sector and business community;
  • Conducting interviews - with team members - in the city with key stakeholders and related parties, in the various policy areas.
  • Representing your team in the organization (the MT).

Staff:
Important are personal attention to employees and their development. Your employees ask different things of you. For example, you are a sparring partner, coach and representative, depending on what they personally need. So you adapt your leadership style easily.

You will work in a municipal organization with a total of about 600 employees. The flat civil service organization consists of 17 teams directly under the management. You will be part of the Management Team Urban Development consisting of 6 departments. The city office is located in the center of Schiedam.

  • WO work and thinking level
  • Multi-year (more than 5) management experience in municipal government
  • Knowledge and experience in administrative decision-making, grants and municipal finance.
