As a Civil Engineering Supervisor, you are an important link in the realization of projects that contribute to the livability and future-proofing of the city. You not only monitor the technical execution of civil projects, but also ensure that these projects meet the expectations of our residents, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders.

What will you do?

As a Civil Engineering Supervisor, you will be responsible for technical and executive tasks within civil engineering projects, with the aim of managing Schiedam's public spaces in a sustainable and efficient manner. You will ensure the execution of both small and large-scale projects, from earthworks to street work and the construction of playgrounds. You supervise the execution of these projects and are actively involved in the process to ensure the quality, sustainability and livability of the public space.

Specifically, you will deal with:

• Reviewing designs, drawings, specifications and work descriptions for accuracy, completeness and feasibility, and ensuring the technical quality of the project
• Coordinating execution and overseeing daily operations with a strong focus on adherence to schedule, budgets and safety standards
• Maintaining short lines of communication with directors and project managers to ensure that projects run efficiently and effectively
• Holding contractors accountable when they fail to comply and ensuring transparent communication with all stakeholders
• Reviewing contractor's more and less work quotes, providing post-calculations and monitoring the financial deadlines of the project
• Responding to residents' questions and complaints and proactively acting to prevent complaints, offering a listening ear and moving quickly to resolve issues

Job Requirements:

• A relevant MBO/HBO education, preferably in the field of Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Civil Engineering Supervisor.
• Knowledge of and experience with laws and regulations, including RAW systematics, UAV and UAV gc.
• Experience with various procurement forms and award criteria.
• Knowledge of safety laws and regulations.
• Able to work independently, with short lines of communication to directors and project managers.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to engage with residents and contractors in an empathetic manner.
• Problem-solving ability, to quickly arrive at the right solution in a variety of situations and address responsibilities when necessary.
• A pragmatic, environmentally aware attitude and the ability to strike the right balance between technical requirements and the wishes of residents and other stakeholders.
