Role description and task arrangements

Job description:
As a building and housing inspector, you will work within the Environmental Supervision team of the Environment Department. Together with your fellow building and housing inspectors, the tree and market inspector, and the special investigating officers, you will be responsible for supervising public spaces. With your professional knowledge, you will contribute to the quality of life and safety in Utrechtse Heuvelrug.
You will be involved in supervising and enforcing laws and regulations in the areas of construction, demolition, and planning violations. You will identify violations in procedures or implementation. If you identify a violation, you will be jointly responsible for finding the right solution. This could be a "good conversation," but it could also involve imposing a construction freeze or, in consultation with our lawyers, applying administrative coercion.
  • You verify that construction is taking place according to the environmental permit issued.
  • You identify conflicts during construction with planning, building and safety regulations.
  • In addition, you will supervise existing construction, illegal construction, fire safety of existing construction and permit-free construction activities.
  • Enforce for observed violations.
  • You will liaise with and report to our lawyers if the application of administrative enforcement is necessary.
  • You will ensure administrative processing of permits in the building registration system.
You are proactive and have excellent communication skills, both oral and written. You smoothly establish internal and external contacts to retrieve information or give advice. Your advice and reports are meticulous, clear and well-founded.
  • You are an enthusiastic, energetic and firm personality.
  • You have an MBO or HBO degree in construction, completed with ABW 1 and 2 (or are willing to take them) and a driver's license B.
  • You have up-to-date knowledge of environmental law, you are curious about future developments, such as the Environment Act and the Quality Assurance Act for Construction, and you are willing to follow training courses in this area.
  • You preferably have several years of experience in a similar position.
  • You keep an overview, work in a planned and structured way, are tenacious and think in solutions.
  • Cooperation comes naturally to you, but you can also work well independently.
  • You can empathize with others, are customer-oriented, have good communication skills and are politically sensitive.
  • In difficult situations, you know how to keep a cool head and find the best solution.
