Role description and task arrangements
Job Description: Housing Support Worker for Ukrainian Refugees
Purpose of the Position
As a housing support worker, you will guide and support Ukrainian displaced persons staying at the municipal shelter in Doorn. You will contribute to a safe and pleasant living environment, encourage residents’ self-reliance and participation, and identify when additional support is needed.
You will be supervised and guided by the site manager and will be accountable for your work. You will work closely with the site manager, the caretaker, security, and various external partners, such as the village team, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and municipal services.
You will be hired through a staffing agency.
What you’ll be doing:
Resident Support: You’ll welcome new residents, ensure they receive a warm reception, and help them get oriented at the shelter. You’ll inform them about the facilities, house rules, and practical matters. In addition, you’ll support residents with questions and challenges in their daily lives. If you notice requests for help or signs of vulnerability, you’ll discuss this promptly with the site manager. As part of your work, you’ll continually encourage residents to find their way independently as much as possible.
Living Environment: You contribute to a safe, clean, and pleasant living environment. In doing so, you encourage residents to take responsibility for their surroundings. When necessary, you respectfully remind residents of agreements and house rules, and you identify and report tensions, conflicts, and disturbances. You also take an active role in organizing and facilitating activities for residents.
Identification and Referral: You are attentive to signs related to residents’ well-being, health, parenting, or safety. When additional support or coordination is needed, you consult with the site manager in a timely manner. You carefully document relevant observations and agreements made to ensure that care is well-coordinated and the continuity of support is guaranteed.
Days and Location: You will work entirely on-site, spread over two or three 8-hour days. We are looking for someone who is available on Thursdays and Fridays in the afternoons and evenings. A potential third day can be scheduled in consultation. On rare occasions, you may be asked—in consultation—to work on a different day (possibly on the weekend).
What we’re looking for: You have at least an MBO-4+ or HBO level of work and thinking. You have at least one year of experience supporting Ukrainian displaced persons and are familiar with their living conditions and support needs. You are observant, culturally sensitive, and able to handle stress. In addition, you have knowledge of intercultural communication and a good understanding of local social services and municipal resources. You are fluent in Ukrainian or Russian, so that you can effectively support residents and communicate with them in their own language.
