UMC Utrecht is seeking an interim Infrastructure IT Architect to provide support for a number of major programs, such as Medtech Infrastructure (replacement of the infrastructure for medical equipment) and the UMC Utrecht renovation project, including the relocation of one of the data centers. As an IT Infrastructure Architect, you will serve as the technical expert within these programs. You will ensure that the program operates within UMC Utrecht’s architecture and frameworks. Where necessary, you will propose adjustments to the architecture, make decisions on complex technical issues, document these decisions, and ensure that our IT solutions are secure, scalable, and future-proof. You maintain coherence, balance interests, and provide direction for technological choices that have both immediate and long-term impacts on the organization. You will report to the Product Manager and IT Architect of the Infrastructure cluster within UMC Utrecht’s IT Department. You will work closely with program managers, project leaders, other IT architects, and engineers.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • You will contribute to the success of the programs. You will oversee the IT architecture within the programs and ensure that it aligns with UMC Utrecht’s enterprise architecture and complies with the guidelines and frameworks of the infrastructure cluster;
  • You ensure that information security and privacy by design are systematically incorporated into architectural designs, including the application of principles such as defense in depth and least privilege;
  • You advise product managers, fellow architects, product teams, program and project managers, and senior management on program planning, continuity, life cycle management, and architectural issues;
  • You evaluate plans against architectural principles and ensure the quality of and compliance with architectural standards (including MDR, ISO, NEN, and GDPR);
  • You will guide product teams in applying architectural principles, assist with design decisions, and provide coaching on technical expertise;
  • You actively contribute to knowledge sharing, standardization, and continuous improvement within the UMC Utrecht architecture community.

Job Requirements:

For this position, we are looking for an experienced IT Architect who can think strategically and has a deep technical understanding. You bring the following:

  • In-depth knowledge of information security and privacy, preferably in the healthcare sector (including ISO 27001, NEN 7510, MDR, and GDPR);
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills: you see the big picture, weigh different interests, and make long-term decisions;
  • Excellent communication skills: you interact seamlessly with technical specialists, project leaders, and management;
  • Organizational sensitivity and political acumen: you build trust and foster support;
  • Focus on results: You deliver quality, ensure safety, and achieve sustainable improvements.
