- patients who need to undergo diagnostic and therapeutic procedures requiring sedation, anesthesia, and pain relief

Purpose of the department:Providing a high level of patient care by ensuring effective cooperation with all disciplines involved in the department.
Purpose of the position:The surgical assistant is responsible for performing his or her part of patient care and professional care, ensuring quality, safety, and sterility.
Technical care/Patient care. Final result: The surgical assistant is able, based on their own professional responsibility, to support the attending physician and other members of the surgical team in a professional manner in order to monitor and optimize the surgical process. In doing so, the interests of the patient must be taken into account.
Core activities.
1. Instrumentation during elective and acute situations. - Knows the surgical procedures and, by anticipating, enables the surgeon to perform the procedure.
- Has the right instruments, equipment, and tools at their disposal. Is able to anticipate situations efficiently, resulting in the unimpeded progress of the operation.
- Ensures the sterility of sterile supplies.
- Counts instruments and gauze according to protocol so that they are not left behind in the patient.
- Collect and store preparations and the accompanying forms in accordance with protocol.

4. Performing medical procedures under the supervision of the specialist. -Receives instructions from the practitioner and determines the protocol-based approach, independently applying modifications to the protocol in the event of deviating instructions. . .
5. Responsible for the availability and functioning of instruments, equipment, consumables/implants, and operating room inventory. - Independently checks attendance and performance. Takes action if necessary.
6. Helps position the patient under general/regional/local anesthesia according to protocol. - Ensures that the patient does not suffer any injuries as a result of incorrect positioning.
7. Represents the interests of the patient before, during, and after surgery. - Ensures patient privacy and takes action if the patient's interests are harmed.
8. Jointly responsible for training and education in the department. - Creating a safe learning environment for training as an operating room assistant and circulating nurse, as well as supervising the student.

3. Supporting parents/caregivers of patients. - Informing parents/guardians as fully and accurately as possible about the pre-, peri-, and postoperative process.
