Are you a strategic communications professional who maintains a broad perspective, builds connections, and knows how to organize communications effectively? If so, we’re looking for you.

As Communications Coordinator, you are responsible for coordinating, developing, and monitoring the integrated communications strategy within Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar (ZHB). You ensure that communications activities across projects, programs, and regions are aligned and contribute to a recognizable and consistent positioning of the organization.

You will work closely with project teams, communications advisors, management, and external partners, and serve as the link between strategy and implementation.

Who is ZHB?
Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar (ZHB) is a partnership between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Rijkswaterstaat, the Province of South Holland, the municipalities of The Hague and Rotterdam, the Metropolitan Region of The Hague Rotterdam (MRDH), the Port of Rotterdam Authority, and ProRail. It was recently decided that the Drechtsteden region will join the partnership this year.

Our main task is to reduce nuisance, promote mobility transition, spread rush hour traffic, and avoid congestion through an area-specific approach in South Holland. To achieve this, we work with our partners to ensure that nuisance during construction work is kept to a minimum and contribute to structural behavioral change and a sustainable mobility transition. Approximately 100 people work at ZHB. This consists of a permanent staff of around 30 employees and a flexible workforce of around 70 people. The communications team consists of 6-7 advisors.

What will you do?
  • You will coordinate the integrated communications strategy across projects, areas, and programs.
  • Develop and monitor your communication strategies and communication frameworks.
  • Ensure consistency between internal and external communications.
  • Advise project leaders, portfolio managers, and management on strategic communication issues.
  • Identify your communication opportunities, risks, and administrative sensitivities.
  • Manage your communications advisors in a functional capacity within projects.
  • Monitor the schedule, quality, and progress of communication activities.
  • You coordinate the use of communication tools, campaigns, and events.
  • Manage your external communications agencies, designers, and other vendors.
  • Ensure a consistent brand identity, tone of voice, and positioning for ZHB.
  • You maintain contact with internal and external stakeholders and represent ZHB in various meetings.
  • Do you focus on high-quality content for various communication channels?
  • You analyze the effectiveness of communication and make suggestions for improvement.
  • You will contribute to the continued professionalization of the communications portfolio through knowledge sharing and quality assurance.

What makes this role interesting?
This position offers the opportunity to truly shape communication within a complex collaborative organization. You’re not just an advisor, but also a director: you connect people, projects, and organizations, oversee the communication strategy, and ensure that Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar remains visible and recognizable. With plenty of room for initiative and a broad social scope, this is a role for a communications professional who wants to make an impact.

What do you bring?
  • A completed associate's or bachelor's degree in Communication or a related field.
  • At least 5 to 7 years of relevant work experience in communications, public communications, or stakeholder communications.
  • Experience coordinating communications within complex projects or partnerships.
  • Proven experience in strategic communication, positioning, and reputation management.
  • Experience with project-based work and providing functional guidance to colleagues.
  • Experience with digital communication, content strategy, and analyzing communication channels.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Good to know
  • 24–32 hours per week
  • You'll work partly at the office (next to the Schiedam Centrum station), partly from home, and sometimes in the area
  • You'll be joining a dedicated team that's still growing
