Role description and task arrangements

Outdoor space team leader team Management

The Outdoor Theme is going through a beautiful development with a lot of official and administrative support and great results inside and outside. Will you help us in our development?

This is what you will do

You will provide coaching leadership to the Management team within Theme Outdoor Space. Theme Outdoor Space consists of 3 teams: Team Management (the vacancy), Team Furnishing (project leaders and support) and Team Maintenance and Cleaning (Outdoor Service). The three team leaders and the theme manager form a close team in the further development of the theme Outer Space. We work closely together to develop the Theme into a well-functioning integral unit. Team Management plays a central role within the Outer Space theme. They are the principal towards the project leaders of team furnishing and towards the field service.

Team Management consists of about 40 employees in 4 subject groups. Each department consists of a director and subject specialists. Team Management is responsible for developing and organizing the management of public space. We face great challenges such as:

  • Climate-adaptive design of public spaces,

  • Increasing biodiversity and circularity

  • Leveraging participation

  • Facilitating the energy transition

  • the implementation of the Integrated Outdoor Space Management Plan.

The team manages sports fields, cemeteries, roads, sewers, water, cables & pipes and waste collection, among other things. We are tackling these tasks more and more integrally and looking at how we are going to implement area-based programming. This requires a different way of working and thinking among employees. As team leader, you will coach the employees in this change towards the managers of the future.

You are the first point of contact for your employees. You take the lead in the proper functioning and development of a team in terms of results, quality and capacity. In close cooperation with the theme manager and the directors, you translate strategic tasks from the board, region and management into concrete actions at team level. Together with the directors you coordinate the work and organize the optimal deployment of employees. Clear agreements about planning, tasks and preconditions provide structure and clarity. Annually you set ambitious goals for the team and implement and monitor them. You ensure connection within the team and stimulate cooperation with teams and themes in the rest of the organization. You have major personnel authority. There, within the established frameworks, the primary responsibility lies with the team leader and the theme manager has final responsibility. With your decisiveness and clear vision you will make a difference for the team and the organization.

This we offer

As team leader, we offer you a challenging and varied position in coaching and directing employees, who have a wide range of topics within their areas of responsibility. Through your efforts, this team can collectively contribute to make the challenges within public space possible.

This is you

As a people-oriented leader, you motivate your team to grow and be the best they can be. With a coaching attitude, you help employees develop their talents and achieve successful results. You give trust, encourage ownership and celebrate successes together. At the same time, you also dare to take a controlling attitude when necessary.

You have knowledge of the field and know exactly how to translate complex issues surrounding the management of public space into concrete goals. With your clear vision, you provide direction and clear frameworks, while at the same time offering room for innovation and initiative. You effortlessly maintain an overview, make connections and encourage an integral approach in which cooperation is central.

You feel like a fish out of water in the dynamics of a political-administrative environment. You know when to shift gears, who to involve and how to exert influence. Flexibility is in your nature, but you remain steady and firm when necessary. With your energy and decisiveness you make the difference for the team and the municipality!

Furthermore, we require

  • Academic work and thinking level

  • A political antenna and experience with political-administrative decision-making

  • That you can transform complex tasks into a practical approach

  • Experience in a managerial position

  • Strong communication skills, inspiring and motivating your team
