Hengelo wants to attract entrepreneurs and talents to join us in making the Hengelo of the future. In this context, the Municipality of Hengelo is looking for a city marketing strategist. Our city marketing vision is already in place; we drafted and adopted it last year together with stakeholders. Now we are looking for a creative strategist who can oversee the to roll out the city marketing vision with ambition and courage. We are looking for an authority in the field of city or area marketing, who knows how to knows how to surprise and convince us and our stakeholders with an innovative (marketing) strategy, translated into challenging campaigns and initiatives in the areas of living, working and leisure. Who knows how to enthuse us and hhelps us to move beyond our Twente sobriety and modesty. So that together with stakeholders we can work on a positively distinctive, recognizable and unambiguous profile of Hengelo. With the aim of attracting the right visitors, residents, businesses, employees and investors to our city.

City marketing vision
Hengelo's city marketing vision (June 2024) was prepared with key stakeholders in the city, under the coordination of Hengelo Promotion. It is an elaboration of the environmental vision "Heart of Hengelo," which sets out the ambition for the city. The municipality of Hengelo wants to further increase and maintain the quality of life for our residents. In order to realize these ambitions, considerable efforts must be made to bind more and better talents and their life partners to our city and region. The Talent task transcends our city boundaries. We work together with our knowledge partners, entrepreneurs, the province and the other cities of Twente. Only together will we succeed in attracting and binding entrepreneurs and talent. City and area marketing can make a valuable contribution to this. That is why the Municipality of Hengelo is looking for a city marketing strategist to work with stakeholders to implement the city marketing vision, starting with drawing up a marketing strategy.
One of the biggest challenges within the city marketing vision is its organization. After all, various public, private and political parties are involved. To strengthen the story of Hengelo, it is important that all those involved embrace and propagate the city marketing vision by including it in policy, marketing, events and other activities.

What will you do?
We are happy to further define the exact assignment and fulfillment of this vacancy together, based in part on your expertise and experience. In outline, the assignment looks as follows:
  • You will develop an and overarching and innovative multi-year marketing strategy and draft an operational implementation plan, in coordination and collaboration with Hengelo Promotion, among others.
  • Through your knowledge and experience in the field of city marketing, you know how to enthuse and activate (new) stakeholders. You initiate the right initiatives in relation to the city marketing vision In the field of product development and collaboration between parties in the city.
  • You know how to connect people and organizations to work toward the common goal. You create support so that employees of the municipality of Hengelo and stakeholders in their work and expressions reinforce the brand values and thus the positioning of Hengelo. You ensure that people and organizations know how to find you with questions or initiatives that contribute to the realization and dissemination of the city marketing vision.

Who are you?
  • You are an authority and expert in the field of city/area marketing; you have extensive knowledge (HBO working and thinking level) and demonstrable experience in drawing up strategic (city) marketing plans and translating them into an operational plan;
